Question the ex368

Hi i'm new,
I have a question about the EX368's.. they're the 5x7 speakers. I'm powering them with the headunit amp on my cda-9807(23 RMS, 50watts max x4), but when i turn up the bass to '3' on the headunit, the speakers are already distorting. The music isnt even loud, I even tried turning up the bass on the factory ford headunit, and they distorted at about 2 o'clock (on the rotary dial that controls the bass, and 12 being neutral). Should I replace the factory wiring or could I have mixed up the positive/negative wiring(wouldnt that give it no bass too?). I'm going to go check the positive/negative part right now, thanks.

90% if not 100% of your problem is your radio
if you want more bass, youll need an external amplifier
also, the bass boost controls on head units arent really too great for your speakers anyways
if you want more bass, buy a sub
as for your question about your mustang, www.crutchfield.com
call them up and ask...theyre right 95% of the time
how hard would it be to measure the actual speaker...or at least if you can see the speaker through the grille measure it there?

cody's right...
amp them with like 50 or 75 watts... and cross them over at like 65 hertz (if you dont have a sub) and you'll see them get a whole lot louder with a whole lot less distortion. The Artist formerly known as PoweredByDodge -
if the ex368's are in the back of the 89 mustang there are a few things you should check. First check the phase of the wires, try reversing the positive and negative on one speaker and see if it sounds better. Second, make sure the Ford premium sound amplifier has been bypassed. Third if I remember correctly the speakers mount to the grill and use it as the baffle, so make sure there is a good seal between the speaker and the grill.95 Escort Lx: front-1 pair mm6, rear- 1 pair mm455, hatch- 1 pair dx tweeters (wired on relays activated by trunk pin) front/rear amps- 2 sony xm-2150gsx (150w rmsX2@4ohm), sub amps- 2 directed 1100d (800w rmsX1@2ohm), head unit- kenwood excelon kdc-x859 with music keg and sirrius tuner, alarm- python 880xp responder.
