IE 6 Service pack

I just noticed a service pack for Internet Explorer 6 on the Windows Update site.

Who wants to bet that in about another 3-4 weeks, some geek will create some virus or worm to exploit this?

Thats usually the way it happens. The geeks search the update site, find the updates that Microsoft publishes for people to download, then they create some virus to exploit it knowing full well that most people don't check the Windows Update site regularly (or at all!).

This latest worm exploited a security flaw that Microsoft knew about and published the fix for on July 16. The worm didn't go out until a month later. Just goes to show how many users and LAN Administrators snooze on the job!

I check the site for updates once a week (atleast).

They do snooze (job security) and should replace all windows with macs or linux boxes.

Make that Linux only. If we all had to use Macs, we would have to rename Earth as Hell.

Some might say that Microsoft "stole" their whole thought of a user friendly operating system from Apple....but who really gives a shite now....I like Apple's format and their computers. Would I buy one? Nope.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

No, I don't care to understand them, in comparison of Windows they are not user friendly. Their not compatible with about anything, and the thought that they run like crap, and crash constantly.......is enough to make me puke!!!

I run windows xp on this computer, 512 ram, 866mhz, 30 gig harddrive, p3, 64 vidcard ---- I can run this computer for over a month and it will still run at the same speed it did a month ago. Overall though, this has been a great computer, and ibeit.....it has windows on it! lol.

I would love to see Linux, I hear alot about that from time to time, I don't feel like downloading it, but I would like to see someone else who uses it.

Bill Gates owns the world........the biggest apple consumer is schools.

Macs are no brainers and ez for anyone to use. Linux requires using a brain.
There's nothing original about windows except for how virus prone they are. In the IT world, you either get it or you don't, training is a moot point.

Gotta agree with this statement. When I signed on for college recently, the program director and I were talking about TCP/IP, specifically IP Subnetting.

He said he had classes in the past on this subject, but just couldn't grasp the concept of the different bit values in each of the octets (for those that know what I'm saying) and calculating IP addresses.

I said it's all pretty clear to me. No big deal! He said, yeah, you're either cut out for this type of work or you're not.

If you're a hacker and create viruses, your goal is to affect the most people so you can gain the most recognition, right? RIGHT! Why would someone go out of their way to create a virus to affect Linux, UNIX or MAC users? Hackers want the best bang for the buck, per se. Thats why they go on the Windows Update site to find the holes that Microsoft already found and they take that info and create a virus. If people would go on the update site in a timely fashion and download the patches and service packs, then the problems with Microsoft would be much smaller.

MACs are great! It the first computer I learned to use. Trouble is, MAC was a poorly run company. Greedy people that said "We're not going to let anyone else build or license our machines! Thats it! We're doing it all ourselves!"

IBM clones are what did them in!

We use Macs at work here. I went in with an open mind, and based off of their performance I can honestly say I LOATHE them and will never own one. :)

What Pisses me off is when people rag on Macs that don't have much experience with them; and also when people are ignorent about the amount of time and effort that goes into OS's. I was raised on a mac, understand them, used them. I currently use a PC that has both windows and Linux installed. Linux is a pain to use and install things and makes using windows and macs look like cake for most things. I prefer windows out of the three, but I can't bring myself to say any one of them sucks.

Yeah, John's right on here. Although isn't it funny that IBM marketing's stragetgy is really what did macintosh in, and now for the new G5 mac is teaming up with IBM!

So lemme get this straight - You just admitted that you don't know what your talking about with macs, but then you think you're qualified enough to make a statment like this?
Their not compatible with about anything
Correction- they're not compatible with GAMES YOU PLAY! Word, Excel, Acrobat, Pagemill, Photoshop, Premiere, Dreamweaver, Flash, Coldfusion, AIM, Filemaker, Norton, to name just a few all have software on Macs almost identical to their PC counterparts.

What I think it comes down to is whether you like the Mac or the Windows interface more. If you like the start menu, that's cool. If you like the apple menu, that's cool too. No one can step on your preference, because it's your preference.

You're absolutely correct. That's what alot of people don't like about MACs. Not alot of game support. From a desktop publishing standpoint, MACs are it! I'm reading an Adobe Photoshop tutorial book. Alot of the graphics and screen captures in the book are from the MAC.

Windows is better at the numbers game. MACs are better at graphics. I've never did a side by side comparison of the two, it's just what I've been reading over the years.

I personally love Win XP Pro!

I am using XP Home, I have used Apple. Maybe it is that I am not familiar with the interface, but in comparison of the windows I am use to - it is rather annoying.

Yeah, This has always been my understanding. But what gets me is that mac is shipping the G5 with NVidia and ATI cards common to both platforms. So how can they have a graphics advantage when they're using the exact same VGAs?

    I hear ya!!

Acually, as I type this, I'm getting ready to go over to a friend's house to help him build a VERY sweet computer. P4, 800FSB, Dual channel DDR400, Serial HD, GeForce FX5200, DVD+-R/RW, The works. it should be fun.
