Just picked up a Polk MM12 thanks to Circuit City's Price Mistake, $129 :) Anyway I was reading that you really have to break these MOMO subs in before they will really produce. So how do you break a sub in? I am thinkin of running it with either a rockford 601s or 801s if that is a factor.

yes youre supposed to break the speakers in for 40 hours
which means push them...but not very hard for 40 hours
what i did with mine was for about 2 weeks i would play my radio at a certain number volume...then i turned it up 5 numbers...played for a week...cranked it up 10 numbers and played for another week...and it seemed to work pretty good
but just dont push them to hard of theyll end up breaking on you
far as amps go...the 601s will do fine...the 801 is pushing the limit

.... I think 3/4 of my problem with my 4 DX12's was i gave them all of 3 seconds of break in time.

started hitting them with 350 watts from day 1.

break em in -- or you'll cry and **** and whine and moan and wish you had.

the 1st pair of momos i had i broke them in for about 10 hours...i ended up cracking the spider on both...so its a good idea to break them in really good...or else youll be sending them back for new ones

although if you bought the cityadvantage plan blow them all you want over the next 2 years and just keep gettin new ones ;D and if the model 2 yrs is better than the one you have you can get a nice little upgrade by just saying it's blown ;D... I love screwin over my former employers :D:D

If you have to break them in, then how do they test them before they ship them?

they test them to see if they work, they dont push them to their limits. your sub will produe sound before you break it in, it just doesnt sound as good.

ACtually...not a good idea to buy that cityadvantage ****...boss talked to the polk rep today,Polk is dropping circuit city...not just gonna stop sending them **** and let them sell what they have...but buying all there **** back from them...thus,more business for real stereo shops, not the wal-mart style one's(no offense anyone)...

yeah but they dont have any of the high end models...
at least Polk isnt so corporate as to not care for the little shops...seems to me like the only reason to make a move like that
    certainly wont help sells...
but then again, im no marketer...

ya but last time i walked into circuit city i noticed something --- they're downgrading their audio section.

no longer do they push the top of the line alpine / pioneer heads ... no longer do they have/push the best stuff they've got -- stuff like the old kenwood db+ subs. ... gone are the nice component sets and tweeters and external active crossover networks and decent grade amps -- they're pushing the cheap **** -- they're no better than best buy anymore...

with that in mind - it may have been wise for polk to pull out -- rather than get dragged down with teh crowd.

CC is a bunch of chrome flames... (Audiobahn) - I concur about pushing the cheap crap... too bad for them... Only thing I bought at CC in my current install is my 2 Polk MM2104's - at $65 each. At that price, I love 'em ;)

yeah my biggest beef with cc regarding polk is their insistance on porting the boxes that the momo subs are in, the friggin ****... (no offense ment to members of the **** community)

Yea,nothing that CC has ever done has impressed me,we get atleast 1 install a week that has come from circuit city...There answer to EVERY problem is "we'll your gonna need to buy one of these to make it work"in my opinion that's not the way to impress customers and keep business coming back(installation wise)...i've heard horror stories about CC and customers cars, like wrapping a customers car around a poll goin like 45 while he was pulling it in the bay(yea right)...or the guy that mounted the coaxials in the doors of a celica with 3 1/2"drywall screws...wow,some people really amaze me,i mean i was a begginer at one time but some things are just common sense even if you dont have any experience at all ya know?

Well if Polk is dropping CC..that makes sense why a local store (mom and pop) picked them up (polk that is) . Only one other store in town sell polk... so we still will have 2

I have 2 12" momo's and a Tantrum1200.1 is that too much power for these subs? I never owned polk subs until now.

for the mm124s or mm12s no
if you have the mm2124s then yes
i think that amp is one ohm stable
if you have the 2124s then you can just add another one and itd be about right
