crazy idea, rti150 project
Hey!! we all know the 70's have better mids, and the 150's have alot more bass, so what about a combination of the 2>???
if the holes matched up that is, Think like this... remove the rti150 top bezel and mid bass driver and tweeter and the first bass woofer, replace it with a rti70 dual mids and tweet bezel and speakers, ultilizing the top bass woofer hole if it matched for the second mid of the 70's bezel, crossever would be the problem, but according to Ken, the crossover basically cuts out the bass to the tweeter but doesnt add bass to the mid drivers... if i read him right?? when we spoke.. so you could use the 150 crossover for the woofer (2 left) and the tweet and well maybe join the 2 mids together or something to that effect???? just kicking idea's after bigsexy said his CC had 150's for cheap cheap.... its agood idea anyways i think.. what ya think? ken would know the hole dimensions to know if the bezel would fit without mods..

Think it's time for you to take up another hobby

If I'm not mistaking, I believe the 150 also has the top midbass driver in a sealed cabinet. That would throw another wrench in things as one would be sealed, and the other would be in the same cabinet as the two woofers. But, you could always put a partition in and seal that one too!
-
why would the mid in the 150 be sealed from the rest of the cab? The 70's arent sealed and they have 2 drivers.. and why should i take up another hobby? It was just an idea..
I'm surprised i didn't get more response, i have no intention of cutting up or changing the speakers integrity, it was just an idea of swaping speakers.. may be it would work maybe not.. i will call ken at CS and see what he says.. I guess if they wanted it like that they would have made it like that..MY HT RIG:

Or....
you could just wait for the RTi12 to come out where you get 2 midrange drivers, as well as get to keep the 3 woofers to boot! -
huh, more money ............... and then would have to upgrade eveything again,, nahMY HT RIG:

I for one am totally willing to blow the cash on the RTi12's. I might wait a little while to see how well they sell, and what people find with the way they sound, but I can't imagine that they would sound bad, especially with the Vifa tweet. The ONLY thing that I don't glowingly love about my RT16's is the tweet is too bright at higher volumes......comment comment comment comment. bitchy.

The RTi12 could rob, murder the RTi150 and walk away without even going to see a judge, the mids are just that much better - along with the highs.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

why bother with an RTi upgrade when we should be rebuilding an lsi series speaker?
sorry

Faster,
Have you ever thought to put a tweeter and a midrange in the same cabinet (not sealed off) with a subwoofer?- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

Sorry for the hijack...Brett, are the new RTi models using Vifa tweets? Anybody know if Polk increased their efficiency? If both answers are yes, I might pick up the new RTi bookshelfs.
Maurice -
The new RTi line uses Vifa tweeters. I do not know about the Eff. We didn't crank it. But I can assure this of you, the new line is MUCH better than the old one. Smoother, crisper top end, the mids are similar, and the bass is similar to the RTi150 I suppose....
I saw the bookshelfs to, very beautiful speakers - I didnt hear them.
For the record, the RTi12 kills the i150, especially in mids (IMO). It also kills it in looks (IMO again). The RTi12 is just a good speaker, somehow I still can see the RTi70 replacement being better in the mid department, or on the same level. I still think the RTi70 replacement is the best bang for the buck out of the RTi line, but everyone has their tastes - what am I to argue? lol!
But the new tweet has the smoothness of the Silk, with the prescence(sp) of the tri-lam.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Honestly the new RTi line did not blow me away. I expected amazing, and just received what would make sense. They sound better, but it ain't no LSi. I was impressed with the imaging and soundstage. I guess that since we weren't able to crank them wide open, that probably made the biggest difference.
They are so cautious in the HQCTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
When you get 3 dudes on one cd player just to run it, cautious is the farthest word from describing it.....lol
No I wasnt blown away either, I had no drive to upgrade after I heard them, maybe the drive to get that new enclosure with cherry!!
Sean, that was FAR from loud.....lol- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

No,
I dont particularly like the RTi150, it reminds me of the RTi100 with passive subs. Which is flat sounding, bad center soundstage, and overall not good or worth the money. The mids of the RTi12 is that of the RTi70, where as the RTi150 DOES NOT have the mids of the RTi70. The RTi150 gets blown away by the 70......especially in the mids. The 150 wins in bass. That is it.
The i12 is ALOT better than the i150, but about the same as the 70, except the 12 has a better top end. The i150 is no comparison in the mids.
I still say the 70 replacement and a good sub will be a better choice...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
You know the first time I heard the LSi15's I wasn't blown away either. Hahaha!
As far as efficiency, I was some specs off the tags for the new models at work and if I recall it is higher than the old/current models. Like 90 or 91 db I think.
