7.2 Home Theater Setup

Hey everyone. I'm new and trying to plan my new 7.2 home theater setup. I'm not very savvy with setting up home theater and have some questions of how and where I should place my speakers.

Attached are two images of the same room, my living room. I have marked the speaker location by A, B, C, and D.

A - Will be in ceiling speakers
B - Can be in ceiling or in wall speakers < My question is about this
C - Will be my center speaker on my TV stand
D - Will be my floor speakers on stands

I also noted where my subs will go.

When viewing the Top image, please note that the bottom wall does not exist. It opens into my Nook area and Kitchen.

My question is how should I place B speakers? From the Profile image, there is a 2 feet drop in the ceiling above my sofa. I'm not sure if I should put the speakers in the wall facing the TV or in the ceiling facing the sofa.

I don't want to rearrange my furniture. What do you guys suggest? I'm leaning towards in the Wall but I'm not sure how everything will sound.

I'm looking to buy the rci85 or the rci80.

Thank you in advance for all your help.

I would say you've got a couple options, of which I might catch some grief for..lol. I'd either a) put the rears as far back on ceiling (as close to the wall as possible) , or b) put a set of bookshelf speakers behind the couch facing up.

Remember, these are supposed to be rears. If at all possible, I'd consider moving the couch forward a foot or two (or was that the wall that didn't exist)

I'm not sure what peoples thoughts will be around here of laying a speaker on it's back facing up. lol

If the B speakers are "rear backs" I would definitely put them in the wall. However, when doing so make sure they are installed in between your A rear speakers. In other words, have the A's installed "wider" than the B's
    Front Mains: RT400's
    Center Channel: CSM
    Main Surround (side/back): RT5's
Rear Backs: Cambridge Soundworks Cubes (for now)
    Sub: BassCube 8
    Reciever: Pioneer VSX-30 Elite
    Blu-Ray: Sony S580
    Gaming: PS3 60GB (fat model)
    HD Cable Box

Because of that fur down I would use inceiling place the rears 1' outside the edge of the couch using the 15degree tilt of the speaker angled toward the couch sweet spot.

Your mids pushed a further towards TV and 15degree toward couch little wider that the rears.

I have installed LSi80's for rears on a gambrel ceiling with damn near purfect reflection, then used mcacc/audessey to adjust sounds the tweeked manually

Can hear the breeze blow ...to shell casings hitting the ground

but don't think you need the mid high at all in the space

I have just completed a similar installation. I used M50's for front R/L and a CS20. My side and rear surrounds are RC85i. My side surround are mounted in a vaulted ceiling on angle facing the primary seating position and rears are mounted in wall behind the primary seating position. My rear surrounds are mounted at the same distance apart as the fronts and the side surrounds are wider than both front and rear. I also wired the front wall for front wide and high to be installed at a later date. I will not use inwall speakers as these require being aimed at the primary seating position.

I will use the Adessey EQ (sic) on my Onkyo TX- SR608 to correct for room accoustics and speaker placement.

My question to you.... Are you going to place boxes or insulation behind your speakers? There is some grey area in this department when it come to installing these speakers. The instructions from Polk call for insulation but the folks at Price Express say NO! Any suggestions from readers?
