Question about Polk Speakers
I am setting up a stereo system in my bedroom. The room is only 12x11x8 feet so a compact system is needed. I have purchased an Onkyo TX-8255 Stereo Receiver (50 watts / channel) and already have a Yamaha DVD-S1700 Universal Disc Player for a source. I listen mostly to classical music but also like new age and folk. From time to time I like to put on something dark and heavy like Nightwish or Epica.
Right now I am shopping for a good set of bookshelf speakers and am considering the Polk RTi A1. Later on I will probably add a small subwoofer to them.
What I find confusing is all the different product lines Polk offers. RTi, LSi, TSi, VM... there seems to be a whole alphabet soup of speaker series. Why so many different lines of speakers? Which series are the better quality?
Can someone make sense of all the different Polk speakers for me?
Thanks,
Philip

Well, it depends on what your trying to do,, Generaly the more you move up the line,, the better Quality, you get, Differant lines of speakers, for differant budgets, The RtiA1, is a fantastic bookshelf, But to be honest, my favorite bookie, is the RT25i, Your ears, your choice,, If your looking at the newer stuff, id look into the RTiA1, or the TSI200,s If you have the extra dough, check out the LSI7,s All great bookshelf speakers, in there own way,Not an Audiophile, just a dude who loves music, and decent gear to hear it with.

For the type of music you listen to I think that you want something less bright than the rti A series. I would second the recommendation of either a used pair of rt25s or the Lsi7 (of course unless you find a really deal the lsis are gonna cost you). The Lsis are very laid back and musically, and have the cojones to handle the huge swells the classical can bring. I would not recommend anything below the rti A line personally. I would also recommend looking at the energy rc10s, as well as the NHT classic line, just to name a couple.
