Upgrading x-over/woofer to Realistic Minimus 77s
I bought the crossover & woofer upgrade kit from eBay for my Realistic Minimus 77s as I blew the woofers out listening to the 1812 Overture in 5.1 last month~
I think my TG-IV is not cutting the bass to the center channel from the internal bass management like it does with the surrounds (supposed to do both equally). Put too much to the little Minimus 77s when the cannons hit on the 1812 Overture~
I was little thrown at first; there were EXTRA caps in the package that had nothing to do with what I purchased~
They sound really good, if maybe a little less efficient. The upgraded used a higher capacity woofer w/custom crossover & changed out the tweeter crossover with a higher quality capacitor. They handle more power now...that's for sure.
Here's some pics:
Original woofer
Cut the outside from the old woofers with a Dremel tool to use on the replacements (round) instead of the crappy plexiglass cutouts included in the package:
Here, the new woofer xover is on top; the old tweeter xover on the bottom. I replaced that black cap on the lower with a larger yellow cap.
Instructions:
Finished result before I put the grill on:
Unused caps included:
And a video of the result:
Well, they DEFINITELY get louder without distorting now. I A/B compared with another pair I have (with newer/different woofers but original) & they keep their composure at much higher levels now. When the others are clearly distorting, these sound wonderful (for what they are). Hell, I may collect a dozen pair & try them stacked in a line array fashion~
I recommend the seller & the upgrade, even if it is a little pricey ($75 shipped) for the Minimus 77.
