This has probably been discussed at length already, but pretty good article about HDMI cables.
I did actually compare Monster cables versus cheap Monoprice cables years ago and found no difference. I have been using the Monoprice ever since with no regrets.

While I will not argue that the audio/video is most likely the same with HDMIs, the biggest thing I've noticed is with HDMI Sync issues. The communication between devices has to be made something like 30-60 times a second or the signal is cut off. I've had a LOT of issues with cheap HDMIs not communicating correctly that a nicer, better built cable passes. This leads me to the second issue with cheap HDMIs: Build Quality. Obviously someone isn't going to build a $10 HDMI as well as a $100 cable. Now I'm not saying you have to buy Monster but even a Belkin HDMI is better than the freebee Comcast/Time Wonderful gave you. My first experience with monoprice cables was not so great. Sure the cables looked fine but the third one finally worked. I am actually using an off brand currently in my rig and out of 4 cables, one had to be replaced. Professionally, I have seen one Monster/Belkin/Name brand HDMI bad out of the box. That alone is worth the time to know when I pull a cable to be installed, I know it works. You get what you pay for and if you're ok with waiting for a second or third cable, then save the bucks and enjoy your new equipment at a later time. Food for thought...Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

I have found Media Bridge Ultra HDMI cables to be a great compromise between uber expensive and ultra cheap cables.
Built really, really well and inexpensive and work everytime.

I hate to say it but I did have a problem with one out of four of the BJC HDMI cables I bought. BJC is good about replacing if you notice the defect within 30 days. Just make sure you try something that takes a lot of bandwith like Blu-Ray with a DTS soundtrack, multi-channel SACD, etc.
I've used Media Bridge also with no issues so far. -
All I know is that I am having no problems with my Belkin HDMI cables.HT setup
