Hope these storms have not affected the members of CP, but what a horrible mess in the south. Hundreds of tornadoes and heavy rains have killed hundreds and spread destruction overt a huge area of the country. God bless those affected.

i was very dejected reading the news this morning. At least with a hurricane you know whats coming. A tornado gives you very little warning.

Crazy. There was a tornado warning here in NC last night, but it was a beautiful evening where I live without much rain at all.

I lived in FL for a number of years, and would take a hurricane over a tornado any day. Tornados (even weak/small ones) provide no warning and thus the people at most risk (i.e. small homes, trailers, etc) don't get a chance to up and leave. In FL when there is a hurricane warning those people have a few days to evacuate.

You can build something to withstand a Cat5 hurricane (the wind, at least), but there really isn't anything to do against an F5 tornado.

We lost power in Huntsville before lunch yesterday and it's not expected to be restored for at least 4-5 days. There's been a dusk till dawn curfew ordered. Phone service is out and the cell tower's backup batteries should give out soon. Sending my family to South Alabama to stay with relatives. So much death and destruction, but we are OK thank goodness. Hope others are as well.

PS - you may wonder how I posted without power...I work at a state building with redundant backup generators :)

2 killed about a mile from me-- the gas station that I stopped at last night is gone,,several employees have damaged or destroyed homes,,two small communities very near me took a direct hit.As I was walking back from our ED,I helped a lady carry her bags in,,she was going to visit her mother(a patient here),,she was crying,,as she had lost her home,,and had to tell her mother that hers had been destroyed also. It's sad,, a somewhat "silent/reverent atsmosphere" prevails. My heart goes out to all who have be affected by this storm.

Thank you. Unfortunately, the news outlets are reporting 180+ deaths in Alabama alone. Recovery efforts are ongoing and I fear the numbers will grow.

I grew up in tornado alley. They are definately one thing I do not miss about living in the south. I feel fortunate that I was never affected by one. My cousin's house got hit last year. Those things are next to impossible to predict.

We have had tornados every other day it seem like for the past 3 weeks. Lots of rain and flooding. I was without power for 3 days last week. Today we are all sunny after some severe weather yesterday. It has been bad lately, other than a tree limb down in my front yard, all is well.

My town, Ringgold Georgia is gone. We were listening to the tv and watching out the window and heard the weather guy say if youre in Ringgold, its bad. I called BS cause it didn't look that bad and we live In downtown Ringgold. I walked out on the back deck and look to the west and was staring straight into the face of a big mass of black swirling clouds less tha. 1/4 of a mile away. At first I was awestruck then I heard the wind getting louder and louder and louder turning into a roar. That's when i turned tail, grabbed the wife and kid and headed to the basement.

We got SUPER lucky and it just nicked us taking off all our shutters and messing up the roof a little. Less than half a mile away was total destruction. It destroyed most of my town.

It then proceded to jump White Oak mountain, destroy Apison and then hit the outskirts of Cleveland and totally destroyed my sisters house, and I mean totally. It killed the neighbors on both sides of her. We just spent the whole day helping her dig stuff out.

We're now in a motel for the night in Chattanooga cause they won't let anybody into Ringgold until the search and rescue is done. I was gonna sweat it out at the house but the water was off and we gotta 1 year old that can't drink sodas.

This is definitley something I will never forget.

This is astounding, especially the very end of it:

Reported Weather Trends from 4/23 through 4/27

Weather channel was stating that the month of April , on average, there are a little over 200 tornadoes in the US. This April there were 600, IIRC. Just amazing that anyone in any of those areas survived.
