I have an Onkyo 1008 9.2 receiver
with the following speakers.

Fronts ---R50's
Center ---CS20
Height & Width ---R150's
Left/Right ---R150's
Back Surrounds ---R150's
Subwoofers --- 2 BIC F12's

All my speakers have 3/4 tweeters---(EXCEPT for the CS20)

Im thinking of purchasing the Monitor 70's that way my Fronts and Center will have same tweeter..........

Will it make that big of a difference in sound if I replace the R50's with the 70's???

If I do decide to buy the 70's..............then my Height,Width and surrounds will still have 3/4 tweeters..Will it sound weird/mismatched?

Nice looking equipment. Yeah, I'd think you'd notice a pretty decent upgrade with the 70's over the 50's.

It's your front stage that matters the most (L, C, R) as far as matching goes. The CS20 "naturally" goes with the TSi line and the CS2 "naturally" goes with the Monitor line, but you can still mix and match the TSi's with the Monitors without noticing a huge difference, I mean, you'd really need a trained ear to make the call.

As far as the other question, your surrounds will do just fine with the rest of the set up but consider this, a 7.2 will strain your system alone, a 9.2 will stress it even more, you might consider a multi channel amp with at least 3 channels if not 5.

I run an 807, I think it has the same power as your 1008. I ended up putting a 3 channel amp in the mix and the 7.2 I run handles the sound very comfortably. For you to run a 9.2, I'd think you'd do very well with some extra power.

Thanks alot for the informative reply Geoff4rfc.......

I'm going to buy a set of M70's......can't wait to see what my setup sounds like once its complete.....was a little worried about the mixed tweeters not sounding right.

A good amp is my next purchase, hopefully in a couple months.

Thanks alot for the informative reply.

Your welcome, and you will totally dig the new sound!! I had a pair of 30's and a CS2. When I added my 70's to the set up, I felt like I had a really nice system.

The 70's will sound better over time as they break in. Be careful not to feed too much volume into your speakers especially if you're going to use all 7 or 9 speakers at once, not having enough power to drive all speakers at once can cause some damage to them. But once you have your amp, let 'em rock.

Congrats again on your new purchase.

Is the XPA-3 a good amp?

    How would I run it?

Do I come out of the pre-outs l/r/c from onkyo 1008 and into the amp with an rca cable for each l/r/c?...and then run wire from amp to speakers......

    Is it that simple?

Will I still be able to get Dolby TrueHD lossless & DTS Master lossless....since the fronts & center are coming out of the preouts and the rest are direct connected to 1008?

Yes,its that simple...and yes also, you will still be getting TrueHD and DTS lossless sound if your running a sperate amp,all your doing is adding more power with adding the amp,and using your 1008 as a pre amp..

    Yes, I second that!!!

Strykker, I have the 807 with 70's and a CS2 hooked up to my XPA-3. The Onkyo only has to feed power to my surrounds.

HD-Master Audio and works, it's all there. You lose nothing by adding the amp and gain extra power to drive your system.

Three RCA cables out from pre-outs on the back of the receiver and into the amp, switch to unbalanced on the amp, run speaker wire from amp to speakers and presto, instant combustion.

NICE.......now all I need is $700.00.....Im taking donations anybody want to give???

I should be able to order the XPA-3 in about a month...heck I just finished ordering my last Monitor 70 yesterday from J&R audio..I ordered 1 at a time....MAN THIS IS GETTING EXPENSIVE..I LOVE ELECTRONICS though...LOL

Will a good heavy duty rca cable work for the AMP?I have some rca cables I ordered from Monoprice that are like ropes their very thick(never use them now though,HDMI took over).

From my research and just plain reading, EMO amps are/can be very sensitive to the quality of the RCA used. There have been many instances of channels failing due to a "faulty" rca cable. Not that you have to spend mega dollars, but you need to have some spares laying around in the event a channel goes red to keep the system up.

I find this hard to believe. I've been into audio since 1978 and have never had a component die because of a a faulty RCA. But, do your due research on an EMO piece and you'll want some spare RCA's on hand.

I"m not trying to sway you against the EMO piece. Just be aware of the RCA issue. I thought the EMO amp was a good addition to a HT setup. I don't know of any other company which would match their level and price. I'm certain some other folks will chime in with a good, alternate choice for a three channel amp.

I have an EMOTIVA XPA5 , runs cool, rock solid, plenty of power, drives the five speakers in my signature with ease. I am using emo "ultra interconnects" never a problem, nice interconnects, superior build quality.

slk, I'm glad you jumped into this. I thought the XPA-5 was nice piece for a HT setup. Not so impressed on the 2 channel side. But it is a fair piece. I thought it fair to mention the sensitivity of the EMO pieces to substandard RCA's. I have no axe to grind with EMO so I'm neutral on all the fluff that goes on.

I hope the OP has an open mind and can accept both positive and negative comments on his potential choice of amps.

I've had my XPA-3 for close to a month now and have it hooked up with the X-series cables. Haven't had any troubles with either 2 channel or HT 7.1.

After some research, I found better equipment out there but none could match this price per wattage. Being on a budget sucks but fortunately, there's something out there for the budget minded like myself.
