Which inceiling for surround with rtia
Hello Guys,
I currently have the system in my signature set up but have been thinking of dividing it. using the rtia7 just for two channel, and moving the rti4 with the csi3 as the frontstage for movies and adding either rc60 or rc80 or any other choice (not too expensive) as in ceiling surround.
The reason i want to do this is because i would like to eliminate the amp selector and try my brand new mit cables for two channel.
Do any of you guys own/ed in ceiling speakers? how they work as surrounds? i know is for effects only which is the reason i am leaning towards them trying to clean a little bit the space.
thanks in advanced for your comments and input,
Eduardo

I am using RC80i's for my surrounds in a 5.1 setup. They do just fine. My room dictated the use of in-ceiling speakers. If I had a choice, I'd prefer in-walls, or on-walls, but if you have to use in-ceilings, they do just fine.Pioneer 1018

If you ever think you'd "re-purpose" the A7's back into 5.1 duty for movies, you might want to consider the TCi series for your in-ceiling surrounds.
Like Todd above, we had the RC80i's as surrounds, when we had RTi70's and a CSi40 up front. But after upgrading to RTi A7's and a CSi A6, I upgraded to the TC80i's. For fun, I installed one TC80i and temporarily left the other RC80i in place for some A-B testing. The TCi definitely had a slightly more detailed output than the RCi, and there was quite a bit of difference tonally between the two when running the test tones from an Onkyo 805. The TCi was much better matched to the RTi A7/CSi A6 speakers.
I also liked the fact that the TC80is are more "directional-tweakable", meaning you can rotate the entire assembly to aim the angled woofer towards the listening position - or towards a side wall for a more diffuse sound. It also has an aimable tweeter, though so does the RC80i.
I know the TCi is considerably more than the RTi series, but I was lucky and bought mine from Amazon when they were less than two hundred each. I actually bought my RTi's from there also a few years prior, though the pair was only one hundred ten. Not sure what budget you had in mind...
So something to consider if you think the A7's will end back up in home theater duty...Main HT:JVC DLA-RS45135" Elite Screens fixed frame, 1.1 gainMarantz SR7007 (operating as pre-pro)Emotiva XPA-1 x3 (L+C+R), UPA-7 (surrounds)Oppo BDP-103D/BDP-83Toshiba HD-XA2Panamax M5410 Pro x3Polk LSiM707s, LSiC706, 80 F/X-LS, 65-RTSeaton Sound/MCCA MFW "Turbo" + custom Dayton SA1000 sub amp (orig.
