Are those good speakers? Absolutely. Will you get lots of enjoyment out of it? Definitely. As for it being a good deal, that's a little harder to answer. I owned the rt7s as my mains for over a year and loved them, but I paid 150 shipped and sold them for just a little over that. I have never seen them go for over 200 shipped. So lets break it down:

    AVR - $100
    RT16s - $150
    RT7s - $100
    CS350 - $75
    SUB - $75

Yes overall I would say that it is a good deal that you will enjoy. I would however see if the person will take $400, and if not see if he will take 350 and keep the receiver. I think that you can do better for 150-200 on ebay or the polk fela market.

    good luck!

Also keep in mind that the receiver does have multi channel inputs which is good (but no pre-outs), and you can probably sell it for 75-100 bucks on ebay if you decide that you want something different. I would say that if the speakers are in good cosmetic shape and all the drivers are functioning properly it is a very decent deal.

so...............Thanks for the insight. As a BIG novice, how should I check these when I go look at them? Other than just listening to each.

Make sure that each driver is working. Looking for damage on or around the speaker cones. Make sure that all the binding posts are in tact. Hopefully he has the whole thing set up so you can hear that each channel and several sources work through the yamaha. Even if one speaker ends up bad you can most likely part it out here and recoup your money since polk no longer makes parts for those speakers.
