hi, just joined the forum and i've been trying to do some research on a HT set up. hoping to get some feedback on a setup i'm thinking about. i probably spend 70% movies/25% gaming/5% music right now. i don't want to break the bank since this is my first try at putting together a system. i can't remember the dimensions of my living room, but it is definitely longer than wide. maybe like 22' L x 10' W if i had to guess?
what i'm currently considering-
monitor 70s for the front L/R
cs2 for the center
monitor 40s as L/R satellites
monitor 30s as L/R rears
still undecided for the sub. was considering maybe the pioneer 1021k as the receiver? i'd be open to any sort of suggestions here.

Not sure about what receiver to refer you to, but that looks like a nice budget friendly setup to start with.

You could probably just do the 30's for surrounds and rears and save yourself a few bucks. I dont think your gonna tell the difference in the 40's and 30's if your just using them as surrounds/rears IMO. What where thinking on getting for a sub?Music doesn't lie. thanks for the input so far.
maybe the HSU STF-2? reading/searching, i see this make & model a lot as very good performance for the price. not sure if its overkill or not.
interesting about the 30s vs. 40s comment. so i wouldn't lose any of the experience with 30s all around? i've read that the 40s are pretty big also, so i guess going smaller would be nice too. -
Have not heard that sub HSU does make some good subs and you can never have too much bass IMO, you can always control the volume of your sub. I think the 30's should be just fine for your side/surrounds without losing any sound quality, and ya it would look nicer if they matched. Good luckMusic doesn't lie. so i just measured my living room. its about 20 feet long and 12 feet wide. opens up to a foyer area. we have part of the room sectioned off by our couches where our tv is, so i'd wager that the tv viewing area is more like 16 x 12.
i was actually thinking of getting the pioneer vsx-1120-k, not the 1021, but i guess the 1120 has been discontinued? would any of these receivers have enough power for this setup? -
sorry, after reading around more, apparently the elite VSX 32 or 33 is comparable to the 1120, so i guess i don't have much to worry about.

I have the Pioneer 1020 and it powers my monitor 60s and cs2 very well. You can find the 1020 for around $350 now.
