Internal Wiring Cable Choices

So, I apologize if there are lots of threads about this, I was not able to find many...

What do you all use for your internal wiring speakers or electronics?
The 3 main decision points are Solid or Stranded, AWG, and Copper or Silver...

For signal cable (I have only wired RCAs and S/PDIF/Toslink) I like semi-fine (22 AWG so far) solid silver.

I have used 16 AWG solid copper for speaker wiring (crossover networks)

I have no idea what internal power cabling should be...

I can say that I really like the silver for internal signal. Anyone else? Also, what "treatment" of the internal wiring is appropriate? i.e. Twisting RCA or speaker pairs and braiding XLR...

Thanks,

Ted

I usually run twisted Neotech 14-18ga inside, but be warned, solid core can put additional strain on the leads.

That and Kimber's TCSS are my faves for use in electronics.

As crazy as it may sound - I found a good source through EBay for about 4 dollars a foot (red/black)

I had a recent amp project wired with solid core Neotech for the power input and my father in law chastised me for the way I'd used it. Said it was more prone to oscillation then stranded wire, especially without the negative/positive pairs being twisted. Not having enough to re-wire it in that manner, I ended up changing it out for some mil spec stranded copper PVC insulated wire from a surplus sales company.

In the end, the type of wire I use isn't the highest thing on my priority list when I'm building something. Not saying the type of wire isn't important, but I feel it's implementation is the make or break of the wiring job.

Thanks for starting this thread. I myself have to wire a CSi5 here shortly and am wondering if I need to use anything other than my Monoprice 14 gauge wire for it.

Just email Darren from DH Labs and he can sell you stuff direct, or recommend the closest distributor. He's really easy to work with and offers world class products at fair prices.

Furtech also makes good hook up wire. when i did the XO's on my SDA's I used Furtech through out in 14ga. you can get the different colors for the different wires inside the cabinet.

I'm going to try something new and re-wire my Klipsch Forte speakers with Jantzen Audio solid-core copper PE wire; 17AWG and 20AWG. Obviously I'm hoping for an improvement in sound quality, but if nothing else it will match the Jantzen crossovers in those speakers and get rid of the cheap 80's wiring in the speakers.

It's $2.49/ft in less than 100 ft increments. Just did the internals on both my RTA 12C's when I reworked the crossovers.

I can't tell exactly what effect the wire has had on the sound since I changed so many things as once.

It's not too expensive and I like the looooooooong crystals it has!
