Souping up the Super Towers a little more...

I know I have been told it would not make much of a difference but I am getting rid of the Madisound air core inductors and replacing the one in the woofer with an Erse which has identical meaasurements. The tweeters I am going to replace with a Jantzen aire core - not a foil one simply due to the DCR measurement but I still feel it will be nicer than the Madisound units. Their specs vs. their website are so off and I just dont know lol...

AND!!

I am getting rid of the Cigar box and project box combo for these bad boys..

I am also going to try throwing a 20 watt Mundorf Supreme in the woofer network to see how I like it... Will see how it goes.. If these components get rid of the synergy I am experiencing now I can always put the old parts back in - no biggie! :)

    Eh - I came out of a long relationship not to long ago and decided to take a hiatus from the female species for a little bit...

    Sometimes it is good to get away from distractions in life and get back on course..

    Between the house, job, dogs, and audio - I am having a blast and getting back on course....

    Except for the pretty crossover box, I wouldn't bother IMO.

    I am excited to see these cases when they get here...

    I ordered some engraved plates for the back that read...

    Tyler Acoustics Super Towers

    Then one that says, Tweeter (amp), Tweeter (Speaker), Woofer (amp), Woofer (speaker)

    I also have Tyler Acoustic Logos to put on the front...

    If I like the engraved plates I am going to order some more to put on the back of the speakers.

    Also the new inductors cost 15 dollars total for both - so its not like Im spending 120 bucks to experience nothing. lol

    Then hit "place order here". Look at the Sorbothane risers and just pick the finish that suits your needs. It's a relatively amateur website but Rick's products are top notch. He does offer an unadvertised upgraded product but that will get into what you may consider crazy.

    I am wanting rubber feet of some fashion that preferably does not leave marks...

    These do not leave marks. As far as rubber feet? I have 4 that you can have. I take it that you need more but rubber is not isolation. I do have another source that can have you 4 footers for $40.00 but you have to see them. They are not advertised and they are currently under the Dodd.

    Link showed different gear that would benefit from use of isolation feet; one pic was of a B & O Beogram 1900. If those "Bench Cookie" feet can isolate a 1900, they're worth their weight in gold.

    Alright here is the new crossover layout - fitting them all in one enclosure...

    Before I had the woofer network in a cigar box and the tweeter network in a project box (ghettto)

    Check it out!

    I also replaced the regular wound air core inductor in the woofer network with an exact match from Erse and the tweeter network inductor is a Jhantzen(sp) - something about the Madisound ones I did not like....

    I would measure the inductors to make sure the enclosure isn't affecting their values.

    The enclosure is stainless steel and is non magnetic...

    If this doesnt look factory I dont know what would - the only thing I suck at is drilling holes on the same line but hey this did not turn out bad at all!

    I dont think this turned out to bad at all. I am going to order some rubber feet that stick on as I dont feel like drilling holes..

    Alright - one is completely done, rubber feet installed.

    I put the plates that explain what plugs go where on the bottom of the unit so basically you flip it over and it tells you where to plug it in in order...

    But with these on top of the amps - one thing comes to mind (BAD ****)

    Has anyone ever tried the Duelund CAST resistors?

    How would you compare them to the regular Duelund resistors?

    I do not plan to do this anytime soon - but I can easily see doing the woofer caps in ESA and upgrading the resistors to Duelund Cast in the future...

    Not yet, but eventually. For now I just encapsulate their regular resistors in hot glue(except for the ends) and hope I never have to change them.

    Hmmm - I am wondering if there is a sonic difference...

    I oddly preferred the Eagle (cheap non inductive) over the Duelund in my system for whatever reason. The duelund was "cleaner" and more "analytical" but lacked life in the music and depth.

    I am finding resistors make a huge difference as far as values and just their sound characteristics over all. Pretty amazing what a small value difference can make in your sound...

    Once everything was glued down good(caps, coils, and resistors), no lack of depth, height, etc...

    As far as being analytical, it depends on the speaker, room, and gear. They're definitely more transparent than Mills and Eagle. I plan on continuing to use them in the HF and MP of my speakers, but use 12w or 25w Mills in the LP.
