Any suggestions? nothing to break the bank as this will be for a bedroom set up. Just has to play redbook, doesn't need to play anything else.

Also just looking for ideas for the moment as I might also try a squeezebox touch possibly depending on if I can get my stupid USB ports to work on my computer or not.

Just something warmer in sound but not overly warm and would just prefer to have a pure CDP and not a blu-ray, dvd, combo stuff if possible.

I know budget it small but trying to do this whole thing for under 1K.

Speakers are Paradigm Espirits from Ben (single driver with tweeter)
Int amp is the NAD that I just picked up on the forum
Speaker cables MIT EXP deal
IC's some audioquest Dimondback or sidewinders I have sitting around

Another one to consider would be a used Rotel 1072. They can be had in your price range. I paid $300 for mine.

Here's an offer for a demo Cambridge Audio 540C (silver or black they say) for $300 from a local Hifi shop by me; not sure if they'd ship... they seem nice on the phone, but I haven't purchased anything from them yet.. No recommending them necessarily, but its an option =)

Not really. Vanns.com offered to sell me a brand-new Marantz 5004 CD player for under $300.00 shipped. Call them or log on to make an offer.

I picked up an HD 990 by Harman Kardon for a bit more coin than 350. These units are worth more than that, they have very nice detail, are warm enough, have balanced and unbalanced outs, and can be used as a DAC--it has coax and toslink Inputs--(the chip set and correction and upsampling are similar to the more expensive Cambridge Audio 840 CD). The only problem on some units is quality control--have seen a few people complain about it. But at its discount price it's pretty nice.

I use this as my second player. Going with a Jolida unit as the first.

    lol thanks Ted.

I'm just looking for budget right now as it won't be used too much. Mostly while I'm reading or something of that nature.

Chris, I'd try and find a Denon 2900. I kick myself in the butt for selling it to a friend of mine. A fine universal player that I wish I still had on hand.

Is this one of the "nonsense off-topic" posts that I hear a lot of the forum "old timers" complaining about all the time, or does this not count?

    Just wondering.

For that budget, I'd look into the Rotel 1072 myself. It's a damn fine sounding CDP that can compete with players well above its price range IMO.

I'd also look into the Marantz 5004, though I haven't heard that player personally.
