What do you have now? Maybe we can start from there.
What kind of budget?
In-wall not in-wall? -
I haven't really set a budget but realistically something around $1500 - 2000.
what I have now basically think of it as nothing since I will be replacing everything at some point and will be moving that to a different room. -
If I had $1500 I would buy polk rti5
Killer speakers, I have the old 8's http://cgi.ebay.com/ONE-RTi-A5-RTiA5-CHERRY-Tower-Speaker-Polk-Audio-/360354104757?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item53e6c745b5#ht_4391wt_905
A great center like the matching csia6 http://cgi.ebay.com/CSi-A6-CHERRY-Center-Channel-Polk-Audio-/230603569783?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item35b10b3a77#ht_3693wt_905
And the best sounding value rear fxi 6 http://cgi.ebay.com/PAIR-FXi-A6-BLK-Surrounds-Polk-Audio-/390301738371?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item5adfcbe583#ht_3808wt_905
Then shop for an onkyo 808 http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKTXNR808/Onkyo/TX-NR808-7.2-Channel-3-D-Ready-Network-A/V-Receiver/1.html
That would set you back $1800 but you would want to add an amp to that onkyo later so you may as well save $150 and go with the 708 http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKTXNR708/Onkyo/TX-NR708-7.2-Channel-3-D-Ready-Network-A/V-Receiver/1.html
The 708 brings the cost down to $1650 -
is the 1500-2000 for all the speakers and gear such as a blue ray player, tv etc, or just for the speakers?
I personally would look at doing some nice bookshelves or in walls for a room that size and get a nice sub and good AVR that has pre outs.
Some nice speakers would be the RTI series, or even the older Monitors or TSI line. You could easily do a 2 pairs of monitor 30's or 40. 1 for the front L/R and then the other for the surround L/R and then get the CS2 for a center channel.
For subs check out epik, svs, HSU, some of the nicer polks, or even DIY can yeld great results if you want a project.
AVR's good ones to look at are Pioneer, Onkyo, NAD, etc.
Also tell us what you plan to have for a TV. Also if you want small WAF speakers the Polk blackstone series can be very nice and small. -
Let me add take a look at SONYES Receivers, exellent, lots of flexbility, loads of power, superior build quality. SONY ES comes with a 5 year warranty.Emotiva XPA5, Sony ES 5300,: Lsi 15,s LSIC, Monitor 70,s, ( side surrounds) FXI 3,s, (rear surrounds)Micropro4000, Velodyne DEQ 10, Sony 55inchXBR 930D Sony BDP 790 Bedroom rig SonyES 3200 RTIA1,s CSIA4 FXI3,s polk PSW 10 SONY 34inch XBR960:cool:SONY BDP550

@cstmar01 its just speakers and receiver already have the 60" sharp for the tv and a blue ray player.
oops forgot to say currently wouldn't go with in-wall.. maybe at a later date when I remodel the room. -
@polkfarmboy Thanks at lease I see I was on the right track for speakers since everything you posted I had written down as this might work.

No probs buddy I had this exact same setup myself and then branched out into the super expensive world of martin logans
Let me just say that my center channel martin logan retails for $1500 and the csia6 can beat the crap out of it . The csia6 makes you bob your head around when a nice tune comes on in a movie and the bass response is very dynamic and thrilling . -

Nice suggestion for Vamp here. RTI's are great speakers and you can always upgrade around them for a while.
I always wondered what ML centers sounded like. They look great but seemed over hyped by the company. Thanks for the honest opinion. It's hard to admit when something else is better at something than what you have for less than half the price. I've been there myself.
