I don't know much about the Wilson Audio line, especially older ones like these, but I thought this was interesting. They say they were $20K new back in their day. They have a strange design look to them, to me? No affiliation...

The top part of the box appears to be an open baffle design.

Look at what they make now, why would you compare it to today's standards? That could be the kind of speaker Wilson wants back, just for the archive. I've seen it happen SEVERAL times (Polk, Klipsch, and Thiel), and sometimes they compensate by 'trading' the owner for a current model.

    ;)

For a speaker lover/collector, these would probably be a must have in a collection.

I wonder about the midrange multiple driver configuration too? I also wonder if these have been re-done, and not original, cause they look weird?

Yikes can you say midrange comb filtering.I'd opt for a pair of Blose 901's before those abortions.

But it would still be a monopole not a dipole as there would be no rear wave output from the domes as they are sealed.

Not sure the top ones are sealed.

Edit: I see what you are saying, the dome mids are sealed via damped rear chamber.

Interesting... Wilson must be ashamed of them, they're nowhere to be found on their company history timeline.

    I found them mentioned, $150,000!
My favorite story took place about 1991. I went to a store to buy a CD player, in the realm of $700. This store also had high end stuff, including the Wilson Audio Music monoliths which sold for $150,000. He also sold the new Krell CD players which were $5,000 and $11,000 a little out of my bracket. He didn?t want to play the Sony $700 ES unit, but wanted me to buy one of the Krell units. I asked if I could hear it on the Wilson Speakers. He said no, not unless I buy the Krell $11,000 unit. (He had the speakers on when I walked in, it?s not like he had to set them up.) he would not even play the Sony for me, I had to buy it. He then said he had no return policy for it. Never having heard the unit (or the Wilson?s) I left and bought the unit elsewhere.

I get the feeling the above audio store is no longer in business!

I've sent the pic to my friend Deborah Wilson, I'll update when she replies.

Dave if he saw the ad would probably say to himself "I thought I destroyed all those!"

They look just awful, and if they played music, probably even more awfuler (haha not a word).

If he would be willing to trade me a new pair I would like the Maxx 3 or even the Alex. series 2. a 70K or 180K speaker for 900 thats a good deal to me!

Debbie says 'no' as being original Wilson - apparently more than a few in the era were using 'Wilson' as a namesake.

    Cheers,
