Is anyone using the Ultradisc or equal cleaner/treatment on their CD's.
Also any of the other tweaks such as CD mats etc?
Or is this stuff all smoke and mirrors?
I searched around but couldn't find any threads.I am sure someone can point out my stupidity if there are existing threads.

Back in the 80's I had a black disc (I think it was made by Audio Technica or maybe discwasher?) that sat on top of your CD. I don't recall if it made any improvement--but it must have been fairly insignificant...

I did find significant changes by mass loading and using brass cone feet on CD players. I had the heavyhats from Mapleshade, and their 1" cone feet. The clarity in the mid range and bass was definitely noticable.

I tried the "special" green sharpie on the inner and outer edge of the disc. I could have saved several dollars and bought a regular Sharpie at the dollar store for well, a dollar! No noticable change.

A friend of mine swears by the Mapleshades disc cleaning kit but have had no personal experience with it. Installing vibration control under the transport & DAC resulted in a cleaner mid range.

One of my favorites as well, Gordon. And I accidentally happen to own a green Sharpie...but, alas, it is 'not' Special.

I have both of these two items from Mapleshade. While they recommend to use them on all new CDs and DVDs I cannot honestly say if it has any effect on a new disc. I guess from a theoretical prespective they can help. Since it doesn't hurt, I should clean each new CD/DVD, but am to lazy.

However, at least on used DVDs, they do work. I have reference DVDs that I have seen dozens of times, and they looked better after treatment. At this time I use them on my Netflix DVDs since many show up with all types of wear and dirt. More than one 'bad' Netflix DVD started working after treatment. Whoever gets the disc after I return it lucks out.

I succumbed to temptation and bought the Mapleshade CD disc cleaning (improving) polish.

I have two identical copies of Bryan Ferry's "Boys and Girls" and gave the polish to one and then tried to compare the two....I couldn't tell a difference.

I should qualify that as far as the claims for improving the sound quality - I couldn't tell. The kit may work for restoring a scratched/dirty disc.

I recently tried a tweek that worked out for the better. It's called Steinmusic E-Pads. It's a small sticker (smaller than a stamp) that I put on my cd tray and it had a significant improvement. No break-in time, it was immediate. http://www.tweekgeek.com/_e/SteinMusic/product/e-pad/SteinMusic_E_Pads.htm

That's what I'm talking about. This isn't something new. In fact it's as old as the hills. You'll find thousands of threads and articles by Googling 'cd treatments' or 'cd tweaks'. You probably won't find many here though.
