Amp to amp

I feed a RT 1000p tower with 405 wpc Carver Grand Cinema amp (upper posts) and it has a built in amp rated at 70 watts (sub, lower posts). The binding posts are strapped with the tower amp plugged in. The audio signal comes in and goes to both sets of posts. The sub is being feed the 405 wpc and going thru the amp. Is the tower amp amplifing the audio with 405 watts audio? Or is the tower amp not having any effect on the 405 wpc audio thru the subwoofer? I have the gain on that tower amp at halfway (12 o'clock on the gain).

Thanx, Bill

Kind of weird the way you phrased that but let's see if I can answer you.

No matter what the current/wattage that the lower set of binding posts receive, your built-in subwoofer will only see what the built-in amplifier is putting out.

Hook up a 20-watt tube amp or 500-watt solid state amp, the built-in subwoofer won't see a change in power. It could however, see a better/worse signal depending on the cables you're using.

When I owned RT1000P's, I used interconnects and eliminated the binding post jumpers.

Not really knowing these speakers, my guess would be, no it is not using any of the power from the Sunfire amp to power the internal subs in your speakers.
Sunfire TGP, Sunfire Cinema Grand, Sunfire 300~2 (2), Sunfire True Sub (2),Carver ALS Platinum, Carver AL III, TFM-55, C-19, C-9, TX-8, SDA-490t, SDA-390t

Excuse me if you already knew this but it was unclear if you do from your post: An amplifier does not continuously output at it's rated level (in your case, 405W). With your 1000p's being quite efficient its like they NEVER see that much wattage, especially having a powered sub. They probably use 1/4 of that at any given moment at very loud levels.

Yep, kinda a waste of an amp there. The top end uses very little wattage all things considered. Maybe it's time to get your feet wet and move up the speaker chain, let that amp strut it's stuff.

Actually, I got the Carver Cinema amp for my mains and center. Polk SDA SRS 2.3TL's with rebuilt crossovers (Sonicraft caps and resistors) and Polk CS1000p. Did I get my feet wet enough?
