I currently have all my equipment in the closet and am controlling everything with a cheapy fleabay ir emitting system and a logitech harmony one remote....well my problem is it works when it feels like it ...its very tempermental and its not the harmony....so I kind have been looking for something better and I have narrowed it down to 2 set ups:
1. Microsmith hotlink ir repeater
2. Logitech ir receiver and emitter set

So can anyone tell me what my best option would be and if these two items fit in there somewhere ....I basically don't wanna just buy one of them only for the same issue to keep happening....

Not one of your options, but I have used Xantech's Hidden Links for years.

Used to be hard to find, as they were only available through installers, but now it appears Amazon carries them.

Niles Audio makes some great stuff for ir controls. They were the supplier of choice when I was doing HT systems.

I have used Niles and Xantech with great success. I prefer Xantech personally, but it is usually a tad more expensive than Niles. I usually pick up my Xantech equipment on eBay at a discount. How many pieces of equipment are you controlling?

FYI I have also used this one at my in-laws house and two neighbor's houses. I have not heard any complaints from any of them, plus its cheap:

It comes with 4 IR emitters and can run a total of 12.

I've been using X-10 Powermids for over twenty years, no issues, and very reliable. There are no separate IR eyes though, you just set one of the Powermids about three feet in front of the equipment rack. Don't know if you have that much space in your closet or not. About $30 shipped for the last pair I bought on ebay.

He has gone up a little onj price, but ships fast:
