I mainly play games and watch some movies, like some bass. so am looking at the Polk Audio PSW10 as well. was wondering if the TX-508 would be okay with the 40s and the psw10.

That would be more than enough I'd think. These are only bookshelf speakers so they can be driven by just about anything. You may want to think to yourself if you plan on upgrading down the road though. There are no pre-outs for adding on, but other than that it would appear to be a very capable receiver.

I'm assuming this would be more for a basement/bedroom setup since you do not mention going full surround. I say go for it.

Yea it's for my bedroom. However upgrading would happen however i don't know how soon. being this would be the first system i put together versus just buying a home threather that came in a box. Anyways whats would the next good receiver with pre-outs be

If you stay with an Onkyo, the TX-SR708 or the 709 if that is out? Will probably jump the price a few hundred over the 508 though.

You could also look at Pioneer Elites in that range like the VSX-32 or higher.

    And Welcome to Club Polk!

I have two SONY ES receivers, they are both outstanding, lots of features plenty of power and pre-outs. SONY ES receivers come with a 5 year warranty.

I'm going to go with the setup i have in my OP. i rather let my ears mature with the equipment rather then "skip a level" and never really appreciate/learn in his hobby/whatever you might call it.

Looking at the back. i understand all the inputs. but whats Zone 2 line out?

It's essentially like an A+B output, but it doesn't amplify your "B" section. You could use this for running another room off an amp if you wanted.

I'd say stick with your OP like you mentioned. Being your first setup, you're not going to be happy with a future-proofed system (that is affordable currently). What I mean by this, is in 5 years, when you do decide to upgrade, you will probably want a full-featured AVR rather than just to add an amp to your existing setup and pretend all is well. Plus, by then there may be different codecs or standards (3-D, 4-D, super-duper HD etc).

I replaced my Harmon Kardon receiver that i paid over $1200 new 6-8 years ago. Had plenty of power, and preouts. Still a good receiver by todays standards. But.... no HDMI back then. No HD codecs back then. No 3D back then. Even with good planning, sometimes you just gotta pull the trigger for the now.
