All Bob Carver designed gear, succinct review on Audiogon:

"Without going into long analysis of music this amp has massive power and transparency and it does sound more tube than solid state unless you drive it to clipping. The closest thing I have heard that compares is the Boulder or Levinson amps which are thousands of dollars."

That Phase Linear tuner isn't one to necessarily get overly excited about, but ......

Sure there's somebody here who has "Hands On" experience with Phase Linear (Joeparski ?) that can chime in.
"All For $2000 OR BEST OFFER"

I'd suggest forget the JBL speakers, make him an offer on the Phase Linear. This is, of course, vintage gear, so be sure to ask him conditions yadda-yadda, but ...... dang, that rack sure looks sweet !

Those speakers will go for large dollars as well as the newly honored as one of the top ten amps of all-time by The Absolute Sound, the Phase Linear 700B. Actually it was voted the second most important, beat out only by the Dynaco ST-70.

Could someone explain why the 700 is a classic design and highly sought after but the smaller, lower powered 400 is usually considered a fire-starter and problematic (or the Flame Linear 400 as someone once called it)? If I'm not mistaken they were produced around the same time? Admittedly the 400 is lesser in price and power. But why was Bob's design on that model so, seemingly, suspect when he'd already done so well with the 700?

    Just curious...as I've seen a 400 here and there--usually in pawn shops?

No, but I can explain that the inclusion of that amp at #2 on the list of "The Ten Most Important Amps of All-Time" is going to upset AT LEAST a few people.

Before they start drinking early, it was the audio "gods" that voted it.

I snagged a pair of those speaker (no subwoofer) once at a yard sale for $10 and was able to flip them $325. They used foam around the woofer and it was shot.
I thought they sounded good even with the rattling woofer.

    $1k seems a little high.
