Based solely on that video, the people in that video should be sterilized and never be allowed to reproduce. Holy crap.

I agree that it's BS, but slamming on your brakes would be ill-advised for a NUMBER of reasons.

Actually, I would like to take this opportunity to advise CWV to act upon his first thought always.

We have a local cop with a sense of humor, his squad car rear license plate frame says:

there's a law about traveling distance on the highway.

so, the way we learn lessons is for cops to dangerously break the laws? He could have easily caused a multiple car accident doing that stupid ****.

He could have simply flashed the lights

it doesn't even have to be a law, rather it is a simple common sense.

getting a drive license should be tied up to a standardized IQ test and common sense. It will make the streets safer.

In NJ, I have literally blown past a cop in my truck on the turnpike at 90 MPH at 2am...while traveling in the right lane. He pulled out, came up next to me, looked at me through the passenger window and did the "I'm watching you gesture". I nodded, waved and slowed down. He kept going and when he set up again a few miles down the road I was doing 70 in a 65. This time he didn't pull out.

An NJ State Trooper, and I've been told this by several, is more likely to overlook speeding on an empty road than they are traveling in the left lane. If there is traffic, there is nothing they can do but, you must give way to an emergency vehicle on the highway if you are in the left lane. That's NJ state law as well.

The moron in the Civic is lucky they didn't get pulled over. That honestly wasn't a dick move by the cop. He was moving him over so he could continue. He was probably responding to call where lights and sirens are not required. It happens believe it or not. Like heading to an accident where there is emergency personnel already on scene and they need traffic control. You won't see a cop put his lights on until he arrives on scene.

There was nothing "wow" or "dickish" about it. He let the idiot off with a warning. The jerkoff in the Civic was probably all spun up and ready to be a dick to the cop themselves too.

As for the idiots in the car filming, yeah, stupid kids who think they know the law and end up doing nothing but exhibiting ignorance.

BTW, out of all the State Troopers I have had an opportunity to interact with at one point or another, NJ, Connecticut and Maryland have the fairest and most respectful troopers out there.

The word "FAIR" has been stripped from all Mass State Troopers vocab and principles....They are pitbulls up here. I wouldn't be surprised if Mass Statees pulled over other Mass Statees...

BTW the Wow was for the kids shooting the video who apparently don't know what laws are....or puberty.

I moved from New Jersey in 1961 to Los Angeles, the cops in LA are hostile and angry. In the sixties I had several experiences with the LAPD, none of them even by standards that are not mine, could be described as acceptable.

The law in New Jersey is keep right unless passing. The law in New jersey is to yield to approaching emergency vehicles. That asshat should have been cited for both.

Those kids need to get off our roads, too. I see road pizza in their future...

For those of you that do not live in NJ, this is something they do ALL THE TIME. The tailgating you like crazy until you either turn off or just pull in somewhere. This is the first time I have seen them use lights to get someone to move. This even happens on city streets. I hate it wish there was something that could be done about it.

Does this mean the car was not wrong, No they should fallow the laws however cops seem to be real **** when it comes to tailgating. If you are going to pull me or someone over do it!

That doesn't make it right for the cop to break the law. He had the option of using his lights, which is what should have been done. At least the guy in the car was not being dangerous. Tailgating is dangerous, which is why it is illegal. No matter how much control the cop thinks he has of his car, if the guy in front hit the brakes, there would have been a collision.

As bob mentioned, this isn't just on highways. This happened to me on a a one lane road... tell me what law I was breaking there. I understand that everyone plays around at their job, and being in a car all day can be boring... but cops shouldn't make dangerous situations to help their boredom.

I thought I'd read/heard something to this sort on the news about NJ law enforcement in the past few months. Recent story-

    http://www.ctlawtribune.com/getarticle.aspx?ID=40170
While Latinos comprise just 6 percent of the population in East Haven, they made up 60 percent of police stops in the Main Street area, according to Yale law students working on the case.

But, I'm sure it's everywhere. Unfortunately.

The trooper didn't break the law, son. The Civic did. The trooper was in a marked car with a light bar. It was absolutely clear who he was. The Civic had the responsibility to give way and did not.

Only moron kids think the tailgating is instigation on the cop's part. If the cop is up your **** without the lights on, two things are happening. One, he's running your plates because of something stupid you did to attract his attention. Two he needs to get past you and it is far safer for you to just change lanes and get out of the way than it is for him to weave in and out of traffic. If you don't like how close he is FOLLOWING you (see what I did there with the spelling?) then just move aside, signal and pull off. If he has a reason, he'll stop you to have a talk. If not, he'll continue on his way. Simple as that.

Here's another idea. Want to avoid a run in with the constabulary? Don't break the law.
