Rt-3000P repairs?

I am thinking of picking up some 3000's locally that are in really bad shape and won't have the opportunity to test them before purchase.. I would like to re finish the wood and grills which will be no problem.
I think I have heard (read on here) that replacement parts are fairly hard to come by? Is the Amp and Crossover one unit on these?
Thanks in advance,

Yes the parts can be hard to come by. I believe newrival repaired a set recently so you can check with him about his experience. The sub drivers are not available from polk and I don't think the amps are either.
The sub XO may be on the amp. The binding posts are on the plate, but my wife moved my spare so I can't find it to check. The top XO is independant.
At least plug them in to see if the amps buzz and make sure the sub drivers aren't frozen. For the right price you could probably get them and part out if all else fails.
good luck! -
yep, the xover is mounted on the plate amp. I'll comment more after I get out of the office.design is where science and art break even.

sorry things got crazy and forgot about the thread. oops
Anyways, does the seller make any claims to their operational condition?
I spent a lot of time tracking down parts. And when they come by, they aren't cheap. You can try and send the amps into Polk if they need some work, and they may be able to fix any ailments. If not, the amps originally went for ~$750/each and arent cheap when they come around now.
I had almost given up on finding a replacement driver and had settled on replacing all 4 with something similar. The problem with th MW8500 sub drivers is there is almost no information on them. No designers notes at the company, no diagrams, nothing. What I was able to find out while researching was that they were 4-ohm and 86db/1m/1w. Although this doesn't give you much it does help find a suitable replacement. Aditionally I roughly calculated the box volume and between this and measuring the port length, i came up with a few drivers that would fit the bill. So this being said, you could easily purchase replacements.
The drivers for the monitors are much more readily available being used in a number of models such as the CS400, RT55, RT800, RT1000, etc...
Also, If you get these for a pretty great price, i'm sure you could part these out quite easily and make your money back.design is where science and art break even. -

The seller never responded to any of my questions about the amps and we are in the middle of a major (10 year) spring cleaning where I am trying to get the wife to get rid of a lot of stuff and consolidate her girl-scout supplies.Vr3MxStyler2k3 wrote: »You guys can send me a woofer and I can get any info you want on them!

I know a guy local who can repair anything as long as he has a schematic. He replaced the caps on a RT3000 amp for me about a year go. Caps were $16ea. from Polk. If the rest of the speakers are salvageable and you're willing to make the trip to San Marcos, he'll do the repairs very reasonable. I think he charged me $30 or $40 for the work.____________________________________________________________

I would totally buy those for the money they went for. I wish it wasnt a private bidder, i'd see if i could get some parts.

Got my rt3000p amp back today from Polk and it works. I had sent it in last Dec., 2012 and was told that it was good to go and when I played it, it still didn't work. Sent it back last month and Art at Polk Tech (Vista, Calif) said that he would check it out for me. Well he did and replaced 3 items on the board and it now works most excellent. This gives me 2 sets of 3000p's now.My 2012 HT Room - http://www.avsforum.com/t/1416077/bsoko2-new-ht-june-2012

That's good news. I just sent 3 amps to CA last week. I was kind of hoping FED ex lost them for what Polk told me to insure them for. I could probably make more money parting out 4 amps than selling my RT5000p set up...Hopefully my repairs will go as well as yours.

Art Martinez is the tech who works on the amps and he gets them working. If it is fixable, Art will fix it.My 2012 HT Room - http://www.avsforum.com/t/1416077/bsoko2-new-ht-june-2012
