Eh, not much to do in Lenoir, that I know of. Hickory is connected to Lenoir, your kid would love Hickory Dickory Dock, childerns play place. There is Mo's in Lenoir, which is Bowling/arcade/bar/laser tag? (Not sure about the last one). I'm up in Wilkes, about a 20 minute ride, I think this weekend there is ghost tours at the old Wilkes County jail, I've heard pretty good things about that, north of Wilkes is Stone Mountain, very cool outdoor area with waterfalls, and steps to the top to boot! I think thats all I got, any more questions, feel free to PM me!

Think it is called Bo's, not Mo's LOL...but there is not much to do in Lenoir.

I would take hwy 321 up the mountain to Blowing Rock and Boone, there are a lot of outdoor things to do up that way. If you like Fishing and hiking I can suggest many more just let me know.

Doh! Your correct. +1 on 321 up the mountain, GREAT views, and now that the road is done, its an easy ride. If you do go up that way, I'd hit up Woodlands BBQ, great stuff. Also google Grandfather Mountain, may be something you'd like.

Do not forget about Tweetzie Railroad in Blowing Rock. May not be open yet. Pigman bbq I believe right before Lenoir on 321 is also good eats.

Life & Science Museum in Durham for the kid. About 2 minutes off of I-85.

Tons of BBQ, I like Allen & Sons: a few minutes off of I-40 just north of Chapel Hill.

+another on Boone and Blowing Rock.

Lenoir is pretty horrible, as is Hickory (my parents live there.) Boone and Blowing Rock are a different story. A ride on the parkway alone is a joyous thing. Add in a stop at some of the fun parks like Price Park and you'll have a blast I'm sure.

Some of the locals may know more about it, but I've seen a neat gemstone mine where you can spend the day trying to find your own rubys, emeralds, ect north of Grandfather MT. towards Boone on 321 I think. It's been awhile since I've been over there, you can also check out The Mast General Store.

There are gemstone mines up that way, however if you want a really good one you'll want to take about a 25 minute ride over to Hiddenite, we wen't there last year when my mother was down and had a great time. I think it was like $5.00 for a bucket, which took a good our to two to sift through. Prolly a little less expensive then the ones in Boone, but he's right about the Mast General Store, hope you enjoy your time out our way!
