RIP Sidney. I bought one of his amps, a Citation 19. Very nice little amp that really did put out a little more watts rms /channel than it was advertised. Thank you for your honesty HK, it's always appreciated.

I wrote HK a few years back, after getting a 3380 receiver, telling them how impressed I was, and how I had always wanted an HK receiver since the 60's..he was a real pioneer dedicated to quality. I recall he bought his company back to get the reputation back.

What he said. My dad had a HK receiver before I was born, one of the REAL old ones with the flywheel tuner. That's what got me hooked. Keeping the faith, my first significant audio purchase was an HK990vxi receiver back in 1988. A damn fine machine. I currently run an HK AVR for my home theater, which is the second one I've owned, and I have an HK amp that feeds my whole house system.

Unfortunately I think the quality of their stuff took quite a nose dive in the past decade, as did a good portion of the audio industry. I happen to work in the same building as their North American headquarters, and have bumped into some execs in the cafeteria and stirred up conversation about it. They've said they're quite aware that quality has fallen, and these guys are part of a new management team brought in to repair that. They said to stay tuned.

    RIP Sidney.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

My first "real" piece of gear was a H/K. Sad news.

The receiver my dad had when I was a kid was along the lines of this vintage:

I think it was even older than this one though.
