Was at my UPS box today, the lady who owned the store asked me to relieve her of the LSi 15s that I refused delivery of a month ago. The seller did not want them back, and UPS refused the claim (improper packing). While this was all percolating I purchased a new set, direct from Polk. Hooking the banged up set to my rig, was surprised to find they actually sound a lot better than my new ones. Any suggestions?

If these are now yours, It is possible to restore the cabinets as I said in your previous thread. The first thing I would do is gut the cabinets and inspect for internal damage. If none is found, I would re-inforce the top corners internally and sand off the finish on the top of the speaker and using a top quality wood filler, patch the damaged areas and shape as needed. The next step would be to use an autobody filler to smooth out and level everything. Then, I would take them to a body shop and have them painted a high gloss black and buffed out to restore the lustre.
Order the needed replacement bases from Polk, re-install the drivers, and enjoy!The Gear... I'd likely just gut the cabinets for the drivers, tweeters, x-overs, ect. for future use. Keep the x-overs so if you decide to upgrade them you can just send those away and not have to be out your speakers for a few weeks. Anything you don't think you will want/use I would sell and use that money for upgrades.

I wouldn't spend the money to get the cabinets repaired if they are as bad as they sound. Part them out, cut your losses and upgrade the crossovers. The latter is a pain staking ordeal but is worth the time....even if I would never do it again....ever.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Having a set of LSi-15's up front and a set for rear surrounds would be worth fixing them up IMHO, but it would depend for me on the conditions found inside the cabinet when you open them up. If the integrity of the inside of the cabinet has been compromised, then I would lean towards parting them out. If things are good inside, fix them and have a set for the rear.

Did get a full refund, so these are freebies. Considering keeping the damaged goods, sending the new ones back to Polk (only had them ten days) and possibly waiting for the new M's to come out and upgrade. With new bases, a file to smooth the edges and some modeling paint, I could definitely live with these. They sound fantastic.Living Room

I am not really sure how you got it worked out between you and the seller. If the seller refund you in full and let you keeps them, they are definitely freebies.
If the seller file a claim and UPS denies it, you have the obligation to return it to the seller provided seller would pay the return shipping fee unless the seller abandon it in your hands, they might not be freebies.
If the UPS claims denies it and UPS store or whatever store settle the scores with the seller coz it's their fault that they didn't pack it right, you need to release them to the UPS store owner or whoever took responsibility for them if they paid to the seller. They are in legal possession of these speaker and you need to return them or ask them if they would pay for return shipping fees. If the store owner is asking you to release it to them, you need to contact seller and get the permission from her in writing. The seller or the store owner is still the real owner regardless of the speakers are in your hands. They are not freebies till you got the permission from them to keep it to yourself.
If you are keeping the speakers thinking you got them free coz you got your money back regardless of the seller, UPS and UPS store owner telling you it's free, you might end up regretting it later. Just make sure about it.

If he refused delivery, how in the world he got them in his hands? UPS wouldn't give it to him if he refuse delivery.
There are things we don't know clearly or the OP didn't explains the details. The store owner is asking them back from him and UPS also denies the claim which I believe the store owner files with UPS.
The owner doesn't want them back meaning that the owner is holding the store owner responsible for the damages which of course she is doing it right.
UPS denies the claim coz the store didn't pack it right. Still, some fine print is missing from the OP post.
I came across this kind of situation way too many times to understand what is going on there.
Like I said, he needs to get the permission to keep them in writing and don't spend any coins to fix up anything till he is sure of all parties involved (UPS, UPS Store or whatever store, owner) makes no claim of it in the future.

Then, they (seller) decided that they weren't worth the 200 to have shipped back.
Therefore, UPS does not have the rights to the speakers because they DIDN'T pay the claim.
The speakers were abandoned in the UPS store with no official owner.
Now, the ups store owner had no use for them and wanted someone to get them out of the store because they were taking up space.
Now they are in the hands of carwasguy instead of the dump. -

Personally I wouldn't return the ones to polk... it's not their issue that this all happened. If it's an option for money saving, why not sell the "free" ones to someone here on the board to offset the extra money you paid to polk vs. ebay seller? That way everyone wins, you get a great pair of speakers the will sound just the same after they break in a little, someone gets a pair of cheap 15s, and polk doesn't need to eat any cost that isn't their issue.
Other than that, maybe keep both pairs and use the shady ones for surrounds, or a 2nd system? I know if I had a free pair of LSI's I'd find a home for them. -

I understand. The OP didn't chime in exactly what happened so I am just as confused as you are.

Frankly, I worked closely with the logistics manager in my company and we deal with UPS, FedEx and other logistics solution for over 10 years. I never heard UPS store near the receiver end will get involved unless the UPS store is also serving the area for delivery.
As far as I know, this is what happens normally. If you refuse the deliver, UPS will either return it to shipper or just discard it. If UPS can't reach you during 3 delivery attempts, they will store it at the UPS location near the receiver and contact the receiver to pick it up from them. If the receiver can't be contacted (not denied delivery), the UPS location will just return the package back to shipper or discard them or sell them in the unclaimed or damaged goods auctions.
That's why I don't exactly understand what the OP said that he refuses the delivery and UPS store owner wants to relieve the LSi15. To clarify the situation. The speakers were badly damaged in transit. I told UPS and the seller, I am not taking these they are damaged and it is not my problem. Fast forward two weeks. The lady who owns the UPS store that the speakers were delivered to (where I have a personal mailbox and am in daily) said take these speakers. UPS denied any type of claim since the speakers were not properly packaged. They also refused to pay return shipping. The seller also refused to pay to have the speakers shipped back. They are sitting as unwanted cargo at the UPS store. They are in the way and the lady wants them gone. She offers them to me to save having to heave them up into the dumpster. As far as jamming Polk on the return, not necessarily the case. When I bought them was unaware of an upgraded product coming out the next month. I return their property in mint condition and spend twice as much on some new gear. The banged up one would make some nice front wides.Living Room

Thanks for chiming in. I see how it works out for you. There is a hell of a nice lady in that UPS store. Usually, they just give it back to UPS and the UPS sells all unclaimed goods (which in your case) at their warehouse auctions.
