Speaker grill material

I am in the process of cat proofing the monitors. I've got them heavy enough that they shouldn't be knocked over, and I actually think the spikes on the stand hold the speakers in place enough for the cat to jump on them (I got BlueStik in case this isn't true).

Problem, when cats jump off of high places, they put their feet as far down on the object as possible. This means that, at some point, his feet will move across the tweeter, probably with devastating results.

I want to pull off the mesh grill and put on something hard... like, I don't know, animal screening or something.

Any suggestions for something that will stop the destruction without altering the sound?

Put something sticky on the top of your speakers. They will jump there once, and never again. Use your imagination; be creative. Something that won't hurt the finish, but will annoy the cat. You can probably remove it after a few weeks and never have the problem again.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

    Get dogs :-)
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Ha. Everyones been telling me to find a way to get the cat to stop jumping up there... I just don't trust him to stop regardless to what I put on the speaker. He is a very persistent ****... trust me on this.

If I set everything up correctly, I won't have to worry. Redoing the grills will be a real cheap investment that may save me 100+ down the road.

Seeing you want to keep the cat, id put it, with its food, water, and litterbox, in a place where it cannot get to the speakers,,
Not an Audiophile, just a dude who loves music, and decent gear to hear it with.

I was told that cats won't jump where there is nowhere to land. So my wife put a couple of stuffed animals on top of each of my SDA1C's when we got a cat that liked to jump up there. The cat hasn't tried it since. It may even reduce reflections a bit, never really noticed a change though.

Did the same thing with the sub, seems to be working there too, and it's only two feet tall.

whoa, great idea! I didn't even think of that.

I'll try this right now. He's crazy, so we'll see if he goes for the crash landing.

    Thanks!

Get hold of an audio clip of dogs growling and barking and leave it playing on a loop through the speakers when you're not around. That'll keep the cat away.

So, I put some stuffed animals on the speakers... one is gigantic, hanging off either side by more than a foot. The other is too small.

As I was putting the big one up, my cat was walking around base of the stand, looking up while yelling at me (he has a distinctive yell). Later, he found that there is still enough room on the speaker with the small stuffed animal.

This just might work if I get one more large stuffed animal.

I do, but the cats probably wouldn't like it.

Well clearly you are throwing off the tonal ranges of them speakers by doing it that way. That'd be like sitting a 12 ounce beer can on 1 speaker and a 20 ounce beer can on the other. Just does not make for good balance or fung-shway.

Oh yeah, a 12 gauge will solve the kitty problems.
