Marantz sr5005 performance question....

I just replaced my 12 year old JVC rx-6010 with a marantz sr5005. Supposedly, the marantz will sound better according to the description and hype (you know...because it is a marantz). To my surprise, the old jvc sounds warmer, cleaner and crisper, even the base sounds better.

To me the sr5005 sounds non-engaging and boring with no details when I am using purre direct or direct on 2.0 or 2.1. I am running it on polk monitor 70 by the way.

My question is, is there such a thing as AVR/receiver burn-in? Would there be tonal/sound improvements over time?

Right now I just feel like I just wasted a lot of money to have sub-par sound quality. Should I return this, if so what would be a good AVR pair with the polk monitor 70?

Thanks.
