Android Remote - What Else Can We Do?

Comcast now offers Xfinity. Just love the way new words are invented to brand something.
Xfinity has an app that I downloaded and I can now operate my DVR Cable box with my HTC Incredible Phone.......add that to the list.....

Its a little clumsy, a little slow; compared to the actual remote.
But I really feel like "something is afoot at the circle K."

Is this the beginning, the infant stage of what we can do? So much has happened in the past few years. Combining current technologies holds incredible potential.

I am excited.

I'm still waiting to pre-heat the oven from my phone. I give it two or so years.

EDIT: Its also fun to turn on the music on my squeeze-box while outside and have music playing when i come indoors.

I was able to do this ten years ago with my old Palmpilot that had an IR port... :p

Of course... only if I was in IR range.
    Ludicrous gibs!

I could picture bad things happening with this.

Someone accidentally pocket dials their oven to preheat while they're on vacation, and in turn burns down their house...lol

Security is the biggest concern here. I wouldn't settle for anything less than a private key encrypted connection coupled with a password when preheating while away from home, and a password when being used locally.

I think there might actually be a refrigerated oven with remote turn on capability so you can put your food in there and leave it all day and turn it on while your on your way home, I don't remember who made it or if it was real or just a concept.
