Hi All; I am looking to get a can of Deoxit to clean my switches pots etc. Both Deoxit D5 and Gold use the 5% Deoxit solution, but the spec sheet says that Gold has less cleaning power. Am a bit confused as to why, same amount of cleaning solution. Has anyone used Gold to clean switches , pots etc on vintage receivers etc? Does it clean as well as regular Deoxit D5? Thanks for any help.

Deoxit Gold it to be used after the cleaning and on parts like binding posts or something that can be helped by a bit of gold. It is for contacts. The Deoxit Red is great for cleaning pots, but then you want the Caiglube which has blue on the label. I bought one can of Gold, still have most of it ten years later, but have been through about 8 cans of Red and 2 cans of Blue, maybe 3.

I would stick with the D5, or Faderlube version, if it's mainly for pots. I think (possibly) that using Gold on my pots changed it to a darker sound, but I can't verify it. I can tell you I will never buy it again though.
