I have a double layer floating floor that sits of vibration pads in a 16" square grid. Walls, ceilings, and 2nd row stage (sits 12" high) all have been insulated.Should I push my front speakers flush into the false wall where the screen hangs? or leave them in the room? I want the best possible sound possible for my enviroment.

It was suggested on the AAV forum that I put them flush into the wall to create a "baffle", but given my 2.3 unique characteristics I was also told to ask you guys for the best solution. I have the inter connector cable and jumpers.

Do not put them flush into the wall to create a "baffle".

SDAs should be least 3' from the side wall and about 8" off the back wall. Looking at your picture, it looks like any option you choose will result in less-than-optimal placement with that particular speaker. I can't comment on the other side because you didn't post a picture.

Your only hope at this point in time is to play with it and choose whatever sounds "best". Either that, or redesign your room to allow for optimal speaker placement as specified in the manual.

Oh God.. what did I get myself into. I guess I could rearrange the room so the screen is on the side walls. That would mean losing a row of seating. I dont enertain that much though. Would it be worth it?

Can you explain why? I know nothing of speaker acoustics & I'm trying to learn more. Thanks

ox - I'd suggest you listen to them where they are, pulled out, and on your "side wall". See if you can tell the difference, and if so, ask yourself if the difference is enough to warrant changing your setup. Maybe you're not as picky as some of us here, so having them back in those holes might sound great to you. Will it give you optimal sound? No. Will it be most convienient. Probably.

I really want optimal sound. If I built a stage around the screen and covered it with GOM would it be good to place my speakers on the stage or let the 2.3's stay on the floor.

Like Audio Alan said. About 8" from the back wall and 3' from the side walls. I would not raise them off the ground. I would also place them on the widest wall personally. It will limit reflections and maybe save you a few pennies in sound deadening materials.

As you said you don't entertain that much. Go for optimum placement for sound.

When I built my HT setup I went with this list in mind.

    1. Sight, what are you going to look at? Plasma, LCD, Projector. In your case it looks like Projector.

    2. Sound, Optimum placement of speakers. Compromising this will effect all other aspects of an HT setup. If the speakers are setup wrong you will have a tougher time immersing yourself in the HT experience. SDA's need to be setup a particular way to get the most from them. You can maybe get them closer to a side wall but to close to the back wall can really muddy them up.

    3. Comfort. Sofa's or Recliners. Don't go for how many you can fit. Go for how many you can fit comfortably. Worst case scenario, you bring in a folding chairs for the kids.

Just for giggles I moved them 8" of the wall and watched the Incredibles on blu ray. HOLLY COW!!!!! All I can say is awesome. I'm just wondering is it just b/c the new blu ray is awesome or me moving the speakers, or both. I'll spend the day running test...ie. multi blurays, black ops, etc.

How far up should I elevate my 2.3's?

Now that's what I am talking about. Total immersion. Placement is key.

As far as your question goes I wouldn't elevate them.

Building a false wall now the proper way. I love the way the speakers sound out of the old wall & in the room. It was suggested to me that on the main wall behind the new false wall that I line the solid wall with "Lineacustic materiel" from floor to ceiling. Is this a good idea for the 2.3's? Shouls I also consider placing super chunk wedges of Owenings 703 in the corners of the front wall for bass traps?

I would say you should experiment with the ideas you wrote. I like using an acoustic material behind my speakers but some do not. Bass traps are trickier as you may need it on one side of the room and not the other. Trying them in different locations is about the only way I know of taming boom.

I would also suggest panels on the side walls at the reflective point of the speakers. There is a neat video by Martin Logan on youtube that explains this. Try it you will be very pleased with the results. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckoqpBmS_mw
