Ok guys, I know this question has been posted before but I just can't find a good answer. I saw a post last week about a sale on Polk speakers so I thought this would be a good time to go ahead and get my rear surround. Here is the question, with my current set up, what would be the best speaker for my rear surround? Another cs30 or one rti28. I am currently using the cs30 for my center and the rti 28s for my surrounds. Thanks for all of your help.

more expensive but the CSi40 will match your RTi70 mains much more.......I said CSi40

I would pick up the CSi40, use it for your new center channel and rotate the CSi30 into rear surround duty. My vote would be for either one, they are both capable center channels, and drop right in for surround duty.

The only problem with that is that the room isn't very big and I think the csi40 would be too much of a speaker. I am very pleased with the current output of the csi30 though. Would another csi30 be alright too. What are the advantages of using a center instead of a bookshelf?

The CSi40 is an excellent center, one can never have too much center channel support, its where most of the movie comes from.

Yes the CSi30 would be fine, choose what you feel is best for your room and pocket.

Alot of people use center channels due to them being easy to buy. Finding a single speaker is not often easy. They perform just as well, if not better due to an additional driver and more cabinet volume. If you plan or are ready to go 7.1, then buy some bookshelves, if you are 6.1 only, then pick up a center channel.

Thanks buddy. You have been a great help. I think I will go with the csi30 or csi40. I don't forsee moving to 7.1 for some time if ever. Thanks again.

I didn't read this thread before hand, BUT don't get the csi40 unless you have a fairly large room, its overkill in my eyes.. the csi30 is a fine speaker and rear back speakers don't output all that much for any substained amount of time to warrant a large center like the 40, like i said unless you have a pretty big room.. i just got the 30 for a rear center for my small room and its very powerfull.. when calibrated no speakers should outshine another anyways unless its just not as dynamic as the rest, IE: putting a cheapo speaker with a great set of polks or something.. and at $150.00 just about anywhere new you can't beat it.. the csi40 is still up there in price but getting better

Yes, remember I wasn't suggesting the 40 as the rear, only the front....you can use your existing 30 for the rear duty. Good luck in your choice.

Faster is correct, it will overpower your area if used in the rear and not calibrated.

i have the csi175 as rear and that seems to work fine with my setup.

I agree 100% with dorokusai on the above. Highly recommended.

I use two CS245i's as 7.1 rear surrounds and this speaker is the equivalent of the CSi30 today. It works very well in this capacity and doesn't take up much room on the shelves.

Let me put my vote in real quick.

Get the CSi40 and use it as the main center channel. Rotate the 30 to the rear.

With the current price drop on these speakers you wont be disapointed with either a 30 or 40. I would go with the 40 because IMHO it is a powerhouse that you will be able to use for years.
