I am also considering the receiver/avr route as long as it fits the price range of around 500 and has the 1080 and hdmi and preouts and all that

I have one... I need to flash the latest firmware. I'll leave it at that.

It does seem to be quite the chore to do flashes to this piece. I'm not a computer guy and would be lost and possibly brick it with my skills on the computer!

I was initially interested in this piece for my HT. I do think it needs a bit more work before it appeals to a person like me with no computer skills!!

When you start with a cockroach, all the bugs do is multiply. There is no way on earth I would buy one, given all the troubles they have had, and continue to experience.

I looked at the UMC-1 as a processor about a year or so ago. Googled it for reviews and got schooled good to avoid it with the bugs it had. Never heard if the people who bought them ever got theirs fixed or what. Google is a wonderful thing.

There are still a lot of unhappy customers out there. Just walk away from the UMC-1.

Skip the Cambridge as far as receivers go. What don't you like about your HK? It's a great receiver for the price.

I would look into room treatments and throw those Monoprice interconnects in the garbage before replacing anything else.

true... but I do run the TGP MkV in my rig and find that using the optical out for audio sounds no different to my ear than having full HDMI support. For my needs, it works quite well as my main focus is the two channel rig.

So MP3's and Lossless also sound identical on your rig?

yeah I would stay away from the UMC-1. There are some that still get bad units and then have to send it back to get a different one. Why to this day they all can't work the same out of the box IDK and I would say just get something different.

If your looking in the range of 700-800 look for a used Pioneer SC series AVR. Good performance and also have some good amps if you would ever need to run something off of it.

so compressed optical sounds the same as lossless on a blue ray on your system? Time to upgrade IMO

I have two sony ES receivers, a 5300 for my main system, and a 3200 for my bedroom, rig. They offer loads of features, more than ample power. The build quality is outstanding. SONY ES products come with a 5year warranty.

I like and own their amps but I too would stay away from the UMC-1. I bought the Marantz Av7005 instead and couldn't be happier.
