I ran one back in 80's! Very nice class A amp. Powered my Klipsch LaScala's perfectly. Never broke down, ample power, very clean power.

Straight DC mode was running it flat with out internal filters or tone (bass/treble) controls.

Before I settled on my LaScala's I used it to power 2 Bose 901's and 4 Bose 601's. It ran quad no problem and no heat issues. I also tried a pair of 15 inch Cerwin Vegas.
Of course at different times, as I was trying to find the right speaker to settle on! :)

I had the black finish, but same amp.
If you pass on it please forward me the contact! :)

I picked up a Technics SU-V78 integrated and it's matching tuner for about $20 at the local Goodwill a few weeks ago. It is also marked New Class A on the front but your model is the more powerful and better built. Cerca late '80s, I think?

This integrated is not a true class A but uses some circuit configuration where it keeps everything on rather than 'switching' like a normal AB push pull. Don't ask me much more about this because I've only seen a page or two in some 'archive', and I suspect it goes AB at higher power. It has an auto fan in the back that only comes on when you push the unit.

That said. I definitely think these units are worth the low prices. I might negotiate a few more dollars down, but if it's in good condition, hey.

I've been running mine with my monitor 5s and I've been pleasantly 'surprised'--it's not the best thing of course but for 15-20 dollars--try and find something 'better'. I think mine is probably 75-80 watts x 2, but it draws 350 watts according to its backside?

I'd say give it a shot and see what you think.

Can't go wrong for $40, it's not really Class A............it's one of those pseudo-marketing terms they used a lot in the 80's.....it's called "New Class A". It's a typical sliding bias scheme with a fancy marketing name.

Nice stuff for the price. I always liked the Technics stuff from that era. I think it sounded pretty good compared to the other major brands of the day.

Worth every penny of $40 for that Integrated. It's not real Class A but it is New Class A.

Me thinks DC means direct coupling and it bypasses all signal line capacitors. (i.e, if pressed, me thinks it bypasses all the tone control circuitry which uses capacitors too).

Well I did pick it up.. looks to be about a 8.5 out of 10 on condition. Built in the early 80's.. circa 81 to 83'

the seller had it hooked up to some older Yamaha towers.... and it pushed them without any problem.. and actually sounded quite good.. despite having the treble cranked to 9 on the dial.

I'll hook it up to my SDA 2B's and see what happens. I think it's just a middle of the road sounding amp.. but it appears to really have some power behind it..

I was attracted to it's power abilities.. thing is pretty heavy.. maybe I should look under the hood and see what kind of large power supply it has

I had an SU V6 back in around 81 which was from the preceeding series of dynamically biased Quasi Class A amps.(IIRC the V9 replaced the V8).It looked nice IMO ,was well built and had excellent spec's on paper but thats about all it had...I replaced with a less expensive ,lower powered and poorer spec'd NAD 3020B.My ears thanked me.

Buy it danger boy see my man cave set up! I own one in silver still in service as we speak, and one in dark gray which is out of service, very heavy amp was dropped, but will refurbish when I get the extra funds. The one I run right now has been in service since 1983 and still pushes any speakers you hook up to it. I would buy it if I could well worth the $40. I see you did buy congrats you will be happy you did.

well the amp works ok... some of the knobs and buttons have some static.. so needs a good cleaning and conditioning on those. amp has plenty of power behind it. I couldn't go over 3 on the dial with the turntable.. and only about 2 with the CD player.

I have to say.... it sounds pretty decent.. yeah it's never going to compete with better made and well known amps with the same power.. but as long as your CD player or turntable are on par.. I'll be able to enjoy the amp for now... and yeah it's heavy. I want to open it up soon and take some gut pics..

that amp seems a bit bright to me.. which for my ears isn't to bad.. but on some CD's.. it can be to much of a good thing.

I figure for $40 it was worth a gamble... with laid back speakers.. this amp would prob do ok.. just impressed with how much balls this thing has.. big cajones!

The seller is clueless. $250 would be closer to real value. Stealing it for $40 (you should try to check to see if it isn't stolen). I own two of them and both are near perfect reproducers. Couldn’t find anything better sounding up to about $1500.
