Hello All,
I just purchased some vinyl from George and after I made a mess of the transaction, its on its way! Problem is I don?t own a turntable and I only have 2 weeks before I have to roll out for pre-deployment. So I?ve have been digging around and found the Sony PS-LX250H. It has a built in Phono so I think I could hook it straight up to the Yamaha RX-N600, or the Audio One amp I use for the two front channels right now and use the Polk Monitors 40s.
I tried used for awhile and couldn?t find anything around that price that I was confidant would work right out of the box. Dose anyone have experience with this model, or have other suggestions in the sub 100 range? I put a link to amazon on the bottom. Thanks for your time.

you're better off getting a used one at a yard sale or craigslist... look for a Pioneer from the late 70's or early 80's.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

With the benefit of 35-ish years of perspective, I'd opine that the best starting point for a complete tyro would be a locally-sourced (i.e., no shipping involved) used Technics direct drive turntable. The physical condition of the deck, its arm, and (especially) the arm and platter bearings, of course, are areas of risk... but that's the most cost-effective place to start.
Until a few months ago, the best place to start would've been a brand new Technics SL-1200 family member... but they're gone now (or at least not cheap anymore as NOS).
These aren't my favorites in any way, shape, or form... even at their price points... but they are rugged, robust, well-built, reliable, straightforward to set up, use, and maintain, and capable of very decent performance at modest cost.
