So? The Red Sox went 12 years shy of a century between WS wins and when they did win in 2004 they swept the favored Cardinals 4 games to none.

If statistics like that mattered, the Boston Red Sox would be the exception that falls in the margin of error.

But statistics like that don't matter and there are still 156 games left in the Red Sox season.

Phillies are 4 and 1 so far and currently up 8-0 over the Mets at the top of the 7th. Well, bottom of the 7th now and Halladay is still pitching. Phillies are home though so they are at bat right now.

The Yankees aren't lookin' so hot this year. I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox stole a couple wins from the Yanks.

Just a shame that the Yanks aren't playing the Phils this year. It's been a mid-summer's treat to watch the Phils stomp a mudhole in the Yanks for the past few years.

BTW, Phils stomped a mudhole in the Mets, 11-0. If it wasn't for Hole Camels and his sucktastic sucking of suckitude, they'd probably be 6-0 right now. Stupid Hole. Should have traded him when they had the chance. Now they're gonna be stuck with him 'cause nobody wants a pitcher that's great when it doesn't matter and totally flakes when it counts.

Hmmmm.... Which Yankees you talking about? I'm more than happy with what I'm seeing so far this year. ARod, Tex, Cano, Posada, and Swish are all hitting the ball great. Russell Martin is looking amazing. Sabathia and Burnett have had two excellent starts, and Nova had a great first outing. Leave out one bad inning for Soriano, which I'm happy to write off as a fluke, and the Yankees wouldn't have lost that game.

I'm thinking the Yankees are looking just dandy. I'm not at all concerned with them beating out Toronto and Baltimore. As for the Red Sox and the Rays, considering those two teams have yet to win a game, things are looking pretty grim for them. Waaaaaay to early to write either of them off, but my money's on the Yankees winning the east this year.

That'll be fun for me, I have full-season tickets behind the plate

I'll await your response with excuses why they lost to the worst team in baseball.

Did I say the Red Sox are the worst team in baseball? I don't think I said that. I think I said they're the best team in eastern Massachusetts, implying that they're certainly not the best team in the East, as all the hype during the offseason was making them out to be. But if you feel they're the worst team in baseball, you're certainly entitled to your opinion. You Red Sox fans need to work on your self-confidence issues

Seriously, I don't make excuses for the Yankees when they lose. Phil Hughes got rocked on Friday, and yesterday the real Josh Beckett chose to show up. Personally, I liked the Josh Beckett of last year whom the Yankees had a habbit of embarassing. But he was great yesterday, no doubt about it.

Congrats, you now have a .222 record

Tell you one thing, Carl Crawford needs to get his act together in left field. He really needs to learn to play off the monster...

Honestly, i didn't watch a single game in the series. Just thought i'd come back and razz you for razzing "The best team in eastern Mass".....and don't tell me you didn't insinuate that they weren't the worst team in baseball

I only care for baseball after the Allstar break and don't usually watch a game between now and then unless someone hands me tickets or it's on at a bar.

As always with the Sox and Yanks, it'll hopefully be a close battle down to last few games of the season for the playoff spots. That's when baseball is at it's best. I'm not die hard Sox fan, i just know where i stand against you Yankees fans

Not me dude, I generally cannot wait for baseball season to start - this year, for the first time, I went down to Tampa and checked out Spring Training. Now that's a good time! Went to three games down there. So much fun.

Couldn't agree more. Nothing better in regular season baseball than a pennant race between the Yanks and the Sawx.

No worries, fire your best shots. We Yankee fans are a confident bunch

Going to the game on Wednesday versus the red hot O's. Went this past Wednesday against the Twins, but it got rained out before the first pitch was even thrown. Really looking forward to seeing a game.

Sports can be a lot of fun to watch and cheer for.... I love going to games....

.... but goddamn these tired pissing matches between fans make me get further and further from them every year. You have NO BEARING on whether "your team" wins or loses, I really don't understand the constant trash talking, to the point where people get mad at each other, or get in fist fights (granted alcohol has a lot to do with that, usually).
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

That's okay bob, I have a friend who doesn't understand sports at all, he doesn't understand how I can root or cheer for something that I have no control of or bearing. And to be honest, I can never explain using any form of logic why I like watching, I just do...

Totally agree with you. Fan jabbing is fun up to a point, but people don't know when to stop, and alcohol definitely plays a part. Take the situation with the Giants and Dodgers from a few weeks ago. That was just out of control. I completely hate it when drunken idiots start heckling opposing fans, they paid for their ticket too. I've seen beer thrown at people, fist fights, etc. The redeeming fact, though, is when the idiot is ultimately thrown out, often other home team fans are decent enough to express their appreciation for the fact that the idiot is being ejected.

When I was at Spring Training, some idiot in Tampa was yelling at a young kid who was wearing a Red Sox hat, telling him he'd get his **** kicked in the Bronx for that. There's just no excuse for that kind of bs.

Phils tore Atlanta a new one taking 2 of 3 from the series. They were tough wins to get though. Atlanta has some business goin' on down there in Hank Aaron Drive.

I would have loved to watch the Yankees give the Red Sox their first win but, the Phillies were on and they take precedence. Plus, I was at work when the Red Sox game started.

Phils have the Nationals Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in Washington. 'Can't wait to see what the Nats money bought them in Werth. Then the Phils are home for 6 days against the Marlins and the Brewers. Then 7 on the road against the Padres and the Diamondbacks. Both teams are even for the season so far.

Oh and Beckett, as good of a pitcher as he is, every time I see him all I think of is the Whos from Whoville in "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" and I start singing to myself "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch..."

There's light-hearted jabbing which I wholeheartedly support, in sports and just in life.

And then there's... most people in New England and New York, who take it to a whole other level (I'm from Everett, MA originally. Very blue collar city right outside Boston, believe me I know them). People who feel like their entire personality and mood is based on their "team" and how they did. It's stupid. You are not your region, let alone your region's sports team. Have the sack to have your own persona.

Sports should be a fun diversion, somethign to make small talk about, not your entire life. Unless you're on the team. Otherwise, I'm sorry, it's just pathetic.

I agree with bobman. I'm from NY and live in Maine right now. Besides the fact that every idiot Mainer likes to pretend Maine is somehow part of MA and therefor the Red Sox are their team, people here do not shut up about the Red Sox. The first question I usually get when someone hears my accent or hears I'm from NY is, so are you a Yankees fan? So what if I am? What if I was a Red Sox fan? Why would anyone honestly even care?

My inlaws used to live in Maine. You're absolutely correct. They take their Sawks real seriously up there.

But I wouldn't trade the fan rivalry for a minute. A lot of times it can be just downright fun. Last year I was on vacation in Ft. Myers, which is where the Red Sox have their spring camp, so lots of Sox fans. I was walking down the beach wearing a Yankee hat, and some 60-something year old woman was walking the opposite way wearing a pink Red Sox hat. I wasn't even thinking about it, but as she passed me, she growled at me. But then we both had a good laugh and made some Yankees/Red Sox small talk on the beach. It was all friendly enough. I walked away thinking it was hilarious. I also walked away knowing that this year, Tampa was the vacation spot! I felt much more at home :-)

There is only one team i follow to the bone and thats The Bruins and NO i don't own part of the team and they are not MY Bruins. They are THE Bruins.

Aside from that, went to college with this guy that literally had 10 red sox tattoos and referred to the Sox as "My Boys".......Way too far for me.

As far as you Northern New Englanders........I'm sorry

Well... the Boston teams are generally considered "New England's" teams since Maine doesn't have any. Just like a huge chunk of the midwest follows the Cardinals because who's putting a baseball team in Nebraska? Everyone in NH and RI follow the Red Sox too, and CT and VT are both half-Boston half-New York (generally speaking, of course).

Yeeshk. Red Sox really are the worst team in baseball. I'm not saying it. The standings are. They're playing .182 ball. What's up with that? I do want them to compete, I love a pennant race!
