Nothing about a sale on the BDP-5000ES.
I did find it for $498 at Best Buy.

I ordered one to try out. Interested to compare with the Denon 3800BDCI I have.

My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

The sony beats the oppo for cd's and sacd's according to one fellow who owns both of them

Don
No it doesn't. -
I must have mixed up the model number but that bluray player that did the sacd was $1500 ....my bad
-
Hard to believe a high end Sony player would not do SACD, wonder if they just don't have it listed maybe?
If it in fact does not do SACD then it would be off my list for sure, only because I need a universal player. -

I suspect you are thinking of the Sony XA-5400ES, which is a pure SACD/CD player. No video, but it does use HDMI for the multi-channel output.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

I too thought there was a Sony that was around $1500 retail that was universal and played Blu-Rays and SACD's. There was a thread on it somewhere here on Club Polk, unless I'm losing my mind.
If that one was the on sale for $349, I'd get it in a heartbeat.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -

Yep thats the one, it looks the exact same and I assumed it was a bdp because of the hdmi -
I recieved this player, but have only used it as a transport to feed my newly built DAC. It worked well for that. I will maybe be able to watch a movie tomorrow. I have not looked to see if this is still on sale, so a review may be worthless. I'll keep you posted anyway though.
Greg
Edit: Yep just checked and the "sale has ended". Hopefully some of you guys looking for a Blu ray player got this one though. It was a good deal......

My bet is the chipset in the Oppo will best the Sony. The video output of the Oppos are excellent.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!
