What have you learned in your time at CP?

I thought that I would start a thread that others, wiser than I, could continue and or correct? The idea is to list some of the things you've read about and learned in your time here...admittedly not 'everyone' will agree with my own starter list.

But I suspect that more will than will not. Feel free to expand and thanks to everyone!

Cables matter.

MIT boxes are: well you know?

Tubes rule

Vinyl is king

SACDs are the bomb (when well recorded and produced)

Wattage is more about quality than quantity

The Rabbit hole is bottomless

Synergy is the ghost in the machine that everyone is searching for (or 'everything' matters!)

How things sound is SUBJECTIVE: dependent on the particular set of ears doing the listening.

It's not merely or mostly about the SPECS.

All channels driven power ratings are usually a bugaboo

It's not always about how much something 'costs'.

I learned networking with local Polkies allows for great deals, fun get togethers with audio thats a PITA to find otherwise and super expensive to boot

I also learned the phrase "I just need to check the forum real quick" rarely results in the "real quick" part....

And I thought I would share her favorite comic on the subject of forums (and I have actually done this many times)

I learned that a funny newspaper article about something innocent can lead to a 5-page rage-fest about the current political state of our Country.

    That takes true dedication folks.

I've learned to keep you guys away from my wallet! I don't need much encouragement!!!

I have been into high end audio for a long time, but I will say, my interest has matured here at Club Polk. I could have easily fallen into some of the easy traps, but luckily I had some great advice from folks here, and I think I have ended up with a couple of killer systems! One of the biggest lessons I have learned is as follows...

    1. Quality stock gear is good, but modded/upgraded is better! Especially with good vintage gear.

    2. New isn't always better. (See #1)

Living Room: Adcom GFP-750 (Upgraded), Squeezebox Touch, Oppo BDP-83, Pioneer DV-79AVi, Parasound HCA-3500 (Upgraded), SDA SRS 2 P/B (Gimpod, Sonicaps, & Mills)

I really have to add, I am more than appreciative, of what I have learned here. My receiver for my H/T is a SONYES 5300. 4ohm stable, yet becuse of what I learned here, I never even attempted to run my LSI,s with it. Glad I did not, why risk damage to an expensive avr and brand new LSI,s. I am grateful...............................................
