I've been trying to help one of my kids develop a nice, inexpensive 2 channel rig. I purchased a pair of of speakers from Dee1948, Vandersteen 2CE and a NAD C370 integrated from another CP member (Sorry, can't remember the name).

Well he is getting into vinyl and would like to use what he/I have! I have an old Pioneer PLA25 from the 70's that I found in one of our unpacked moving boxes from god knows when! I didn't even know I had this piece!!

I researched the C370 and find it will not support a TT without a pre. What I'd like to know is, what would be a fair $100 +/- a couple bucks to get him spinning?

I tried a search but came up empty. Point me to some threads or make a recommendation, I want to make him a satisfied beginner!!

If you are looking for an inexpensive outboard phono preamp try a Audio Technica AT-PEQ3

List price $119, but places like Needle Doctor sell them for $44.

    A Sterophile recommended budget product.

I have one and really like it.
Norh ACA-2B tube pre, Sumo Andromeda SS amp. Magneplanar MMG speakers, M&K MX1250 Subwoofer, Pro-Ject RM1.3 Genie TT with Sumiko Pearl MM cart., Keces DAC, Cambridge Audio Azur 640c CD player

Timothy, thanks for the lead. Will I have to purchase anything else like RCA's to make it work?

Look for a vintage NAD phono pre-amp. They're excellent and usually cheap.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Doro, this thing is new to me and wouldn't know the difference between a NAD and ABC!!

Would a "Gon search serve me? My pre is quite well regarded and have never had to find a 2nd pre. I'm quite confused at this point and just want to let my son spin.

Your RCA leads from your turntable plug into the outboard preamp, so you will need an additional set of RCA cables to go from the preamp to a line level (Aux.) input on your integrated amp or receiver.

(I have also heard good things about NAD outboard phone pre's but have never owned one) I think the PP-1 model is MM only, the PP-2 is MM and MC, and the PP3 is MM, MC and USB.
