Well, a weekend afternoon trip to Huppins with the better half has netted surprising results. The wife fell in love with 3D and while I had no real desire to upgrade our Sony to a new 3D set, I'm not gonna pass on a "request" from the wife to do so, lol. The set is the easy part, the problem comes with my current AVR, while I love my 806, it isn't 1.4 capable and as happy as I am with it, the time has come to look elsewhere. I am pretty much commited to the Onkyo TX-NR1008 that I can get open box from Huppins for a little less than $900. I know there are better AVR's out there, but I like Onkyo and the 1008 seems to be a pretty stout unit. I also am tryiong to get my hands on a Velodyne DLS-5000R, but I have another thread on that in the sub section. Comments?

I have one and love it. Had a little buyers remorse afterwards, kept seeing open box and scratch and dents on the 3008 for a couple hundred more.Living Room

If you don't mind an Onkyo 'refurb' you could come in at 799 and shipping? See:

And keep your eye on that site and on the Onkyo site...under Club Onkyo. They sometimes have good refurb deals that have been worked over by their techs. I got my 805 that way--pretty cheap. Of course they only carry a one year warranty instead of two. But you can buy more protection if your skittish.

Another option would be a 3d bluray player such as the Oppo BDP-93 which has dual hdmi outs, one to the 806 and one straight to the tv. Its another way to go and save some cash but still get some more equipment :biggrin:Onkyo 808

Thanks for the suggestions everybody, that 1008 on A4less looks promising, but the quote I put up was a little off, the price is about the same at Huppins as the one there and it is local, so no shipping or waiting. The Oppo is an option, but already have a PS3 for the player, and I'd rather upgrade my AVR than add another unit to my already crowded HT. Still have to find buyers for my old gear before I can even think about getting anything on my wish list, was just looking for suggestions or comments on the 1008. Thanks again guys.
