Have an inside track on snagging one of these locally. Just started talking to the guy, and I'm thinking I can get it for $300-$350. Any thoughts on this sub, according to his ad it is 2 years old and the shotty cell phone pic. it seemed to be in good shape. He was asking for $700 for the sub and an Onkyo TX-SR805 which I have no need for, so I'm thinking I might be able to get the Velo for around $300, hopefully.

It's a monster above 30hz. Compared to your current sub, it's quite an upgrade. Below 30hz will depend on your room and placement, but it's not designed for useful bass to 20hz or beyond.

Like Ron says above...definitely a big upgrade from your current,PSW125, Jeff. 15" woofer, nice low end, good power--if you can get it for 300--definitely good buy that you'll be happy with....your neighbors less so!
Happy hunting!

Yeah, I saw the frequency response was "only" 23-120, and most of the other Velo's dug a little deeper. Haven't heard back from the guy yet, and I need to sell my other stuff first before I can even think about trying to pull the trigger on this sub. I know it is a big upgrade over my PSW125, just afraid it won't be a "good enough" upgrade in the long run to not want to upgrade it again down the road. Tis the name of the game though, I was content with my 125 until I went to Huppins the other day and was messing around with a Velodyne DEQ-15R, which my wife thought was a mini fridge when she first saw it. I never wanted to hear one of those subs for that exact reason, I knew I would want one.... Hopefully it works out, not very often do subs like this come up on CL around where I live, and the new ones are just too darn expensive for my less than modest Air Force salary, lol. Thanks again guys, very good info as usual.

The DLSR 5000 and the DEQ15 are basically the same design and should behave very similarly. The newer rev might have some improvements. That said, the 5000 has massive output. Will it be the sub you want to keep for a few years? IDK. If you want to experience subsonic bass with similar output, then you're going to be jonesing again. You also won't find it for $300even used. SVS, Hsu, Epik, Rythmik and ED subs all dig deeper, but you have to get past their entry level stuff to match the output of this Velo.
