Helping out a family member with her taxes and just about fell out of my chair when I discovered she averaged about $212.00/month.

I looked into alternatives and to my great surprise, AT&T is now offering Uverse in her area.

Of course, I HATE AT&T, but that doesn't stop me from using them as leverage to pressure TWC to lower her bill.

Her bill is now $113.00/month as opposed to $179.00/month for the same services and she didn't have to switch to AT&T (they even adjusted last month's bill to the new lower amount and posted a credit!).

She has high-speed internet, 1 dvr/digital box, two regular boxes, HBO, Show, and several movie and sports packages.

I tried this with TWC about six months ago but Uverse wasn't here yet. Keep checking in your areas! Competition is heating up!

I LOVE it!

    Nothing like competition!

I yearn for the day when one can choose only the channels one watches....really hate the packaged marketing that all these services have.

Streaming Netflix and now Amazon (giving Prime members FREE movies) are great alternative to subscribing to HBO and the like, allowing one to watch exactly what they want when they want.

You could have had a base of $89 and averaged $212 buying Pay per Views so I don't know if you comparing apples to apples or not. However, you could have called Time Warner and negotiated a bundle with Digital Cable, Road Runner and Digital Phone for about the same price if you had asked for their best unpublished deals and and threatened to cancel.

The whole threatening to cancel thing usually works best though when they know you have other options in your area. The place we're in now, my only option is Time Warner and they know it. I've still managed to get decent pricing, but played the "I'm a long time customer" card rather than the "I'm gonna cancel" card, knowing the latter would be less effective.

threatening to cancel to comcast goes like this, "if you guys can;t help me, I think I'll cancel and switch to DirectTV", "Ok, would you like me to send you to someone who can help you with that?"

About a dozen PPV movies throughout the year, no fights or big ticket extras.....good suggestion for next time though, thanks.

It really sux that there are still places where there is only one option. I've been waiting to quit that club for a long time.

I ditched Time Warner for TV about a month and a half ago. I got tired of them raising prices and providing crappy service. Can't say I miss it much. It would be nice if cable companies had to compete like everyone else instead of dividing up territories between them.

I have direct tv, basically its exellent, lots of HD channels superb picture quality (Sony XBR5), whole house DVR, recorder in Home theater, play on any HD TV in the house, but gee whiz$130.00 a month , how many are old enough to recall when TV was totally free? I do grew up watching black and white about 10 channels, thought it was just great. WTF?
