FXi A6's have arrived; Comparing them to FXi A4's
My FXi A6's have arrrived and I have them setup in the identical location as my FXi A4's were in.
The 6's have more mass to them then I thought! Very nice looking speaker! I did not think that the A6 was much bigger than the A4, but when putting them beside one another they are.
Major difference between the two are the mid/woofer size at 5-1/4" on the FXi A4's and the FXiA6's uses a 6-1/2" mid/woofer.
Frequency response is a bit lower on the A6's, 45 kHz compared to 55 KHz and the 6's can handle 25 more watts at 150 w max.
Another difference is that the bi/di polar switch is inside the speaker grill on the FXiA6's and it is around the back above the speaker posts on the FXiA4.
Again, for the minor size difference in woofers, the FXi A6 speakers are a lot bigger.
As for the sound difference I re-run my AVR calibration, set them to small, crossed them over at 80, set them to di-pole and gave a quick listen.
Same rear stage that I liked, cannot really pin point the sound of where it is coming from (good thing)
I know it is very early and they are right out of the box, but I could tell that the speaker had a little more to it compared to the FXi A4.
Popped in The Allman Brothers Band, "Live at the Fillmore East" SACD and could tell there was a different speaker behind me. A little more ummph and rear stage seemed a bit fuller. (could be the height difference of speakers)
Anyway, I loved the sound from the FXi A4's but wanted to step up the rear stage as I upgraded the fronts to RTi A9's and now have the FXi A6's back there! SO I am sure I will like them as much or maybe more!
Thanks for reading.

Didn't realize how much bigger the a6's are. Congrats and enjoy your upgrade.

A6s are huge. Nice upgrade though. I've always thought about upgrading in my HT to the larger speaker, never went through with it. I just run them a littler hotter in the calibration setup.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Thanks all, if anyone was on the fence about the upgrade I can say that it is worth it.
I mentioned already that I love the sound of the FXiA4's so I figured I would love the sound of the bigger one.
Only thought was, is it going to be worth it and will I really be able to hear a difference.
Yes and yes to both questions. They have a more noticable punch to them and as I purchased them on sale it worked out good. -
They would sound even better amplified.:biggrin:Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

Sorry to bump a thread that's a few days old, but wondering where you picked these up, gfong? I've been debating between the 4's and the 6's to use as side surrounds - the 6's seem to be very difficult to come by in Canada, at least at a somewhat reasonable price.First HT system in progress:
AVR - Yamaha RX-A800
Front - Polk ?? -TBD
Center - Polk ?? - TBD
Rear - Polk?? - TBD
Surround - Polk?? - TBD

Hey no probs, got them on sale at http://www.gibbyselectronicsupermarket.ca/
Paid $398.00 plus tax plus $5.00 enviro fee and $20.00 to ship them. Total to my door was $479.04.
Gibbys puts them on sale regularly. Good luck. -
In Canada do they always charge you an environmental fee?
Just another way for the Government to soak the citizen.
They want everyone to be green and pay for it.
Not trying to hi-jack an old post but the fee got me. -
that is a big size difference.
the a6 look close to the size of the LSiFX.mole' -
Question.... do you have these mounted or on a stand? if so what stand do you use for these?
