No, it was like 600. I did not want any deep cuts in the soft plastic.

Very little pressure, just enough to rough up the surface.

Thanks. I know what I am doing this weekend on Saturday . Then just need to order the parts and I will have me a nice and new CSi5 to go w/ my Monitor 60's and then the LSi 15's I will be aquiring shortly

What primer did you use and also assume just some satin black spray paint?

Did you use the new plastic paint or just regular spray paint?

It was an all surface paint. Was not worried since it was primed.

Wow, I never really noticed until now looking at pic side by side how much nicer the A lineup is compared to the regular RTi lineup. I really like the look with the curved cabinets and wood facia.

That is my only complaint with my monitors, I would love to take the speaker grills off, but they are just dog ugly with that silver front; considering all of my is black and woodgrain.

I also thought that the RTi8's I had looked pretty bad with the silver face. The RTi A series was much better looking. They are very pleasing to the eye.

However, they still found some place to put that ugly silver in there. Around the speakers where they are bolted in, there is a silver ring of plastic.:frown:

    I like the silver ring...

At least my black speakers, not so much on the cherry. If I had cherry I would respray them black...

If you're going to upgrade. Do it right, RTI-A9s or Rti-12s. That's what I would do. I don't, personally find any other Rti tower a fantastic upgrade from my 70s? Meaning that only at the A9s do I feel I'm getting some real value and a lot of 'difference' for the extra money I might spend. But that's because I find the Rti tweeter a bit to bright for my tastes until it is crossed over in a D'appolito array, as it is in the biggest Rti tower. Those speakers can also 'do' music better IMO.

Either way you won't be disappointed--for a while!

I'm not sure about the RTi A9's being the only good speaker. I would say the RTi A7 is almost as good.

Plus, RTi A7's also don't require as much power, therefore it is the best choice for people looking to keep there AVR as the sole power source and not buy a amp.

Yes, the tweeter is bright in the RTi A's that I own. Every single specker. The A9, A7, and CSi A6. I took a little treble out of the EQ for all speaker and they are great now.

I noticed that too...I guess it shouldn't be surprising since they use the same drivers. You would think they would have had new ones designed with black though.

+1 I don't mind it on the black, but it is gaudy with cherry.

The ring is seperate from the driver.

It would be really easy to do.

If you paint the face of the series 1....the tweeters are all one piece. So if you paint the surrounds on the driver rings the tweeter wouldn't match

You COULD tape off the tweeter...

There is a thin gap between the tweeter and surround that you could use to seal it off.

But you would need a steady hand and the least adhesive tape you can find or reverse it so that the adhesive part of the tape is facing up.

Worst case, you ruin a tweeter trying it. I don't think they are that expensive from Polk to replace.
