Hello to Everyone first time poster. This is my first attempt at putting together a HT system. Anybody have any experience on setting up a HT with the listening position against the wall where the surrounds are mounted. I have the rear surround satellites mounted about three feet higher than the fronts, along a wall where we have a couch placed. The are polk satellites mounted straight ahead about 2 ft. above ear level. During some movies we need to place the level up on the rear surrounds, is it just the soundtrack or would it be better if we placed the speakers on a side wall or position down at an angle?

Do your auto cal with the mic that came withthe reciever. Your levels should be plenty good then.

I have heard of people turning up the center channel sometimes on certain DVD's because of the recording but often the level are pretty right after auto cal.

Auto Cal does not always work right but it has been really good most times I have used it.

Problems I have had is the reciever saying my speaker was out of phase when it was not.

Sometimes, the Auto Cal may say your speakers are small when they are large and you need to go in and change that yourself.

Another to look out for is to make sure that the speaker distances turns out right.

Auto Cal on many recievers will also set a EQ to bring about a flat response, so if you don't have you own method to do this. Auto Cal will take care of it.

So try Auto Cal first, then try to fix it if the sound isn't right.
