Previously, we had Onkyo announcing some megabuck 2 channel components. For those of us with a more limited budget, Onkyo has just announced a couple of new 2 channel components....

Onkyo TX-8050 network capable stereo receiver with build-in DAC via optical/coax inputs, subwoofer output, pre-outs, 2nd zone pre-outs, iPod/iPad direct digital connection, and of course, phono input. 80 watts/channel and 4 ohm capable. MSRP $400.00

Onkyo C-7030 single-disc dedicated CD player. MSRP $250.00

    Always liked Onkyo. Really the AVR of my choice. Too bad the announcement was LATE on the CDP, I already picked up a HD-990--a bit more coin but pretty competitive with models above its MSRP?

    Thanks for the heads up!

    not too shabby. Apparently Onkyo has cornered the market on black colored gear.
    Is it 80w/ch or 180w/ch. Their info is conflicting.
    Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!!

    nice.. i may need to see if I can convince the other half to let me put this into the bedroom.. I like the possibility of streaming if it plays FLAC or possibly 320kbps mp3. .. great feature set for $400.00.. shame it doesn't have HDMI, but I don't know of any two channels that do. would be perfect for a 2.1 HT or 2nd system set up.
    Main 2ch -
    BlueSound Node->Ethereal optical cable->Peachtree Audio Nova 150->GoldenEar Triton 2+
    TT - Pro-ject Classic SB with Sumiko Bluepoint.

    TV 3.1 system -
    Denon 3500 -> Dynaudio Excite 32/22

    It's 80 watts/channel, but has the dynamic power of 160 watts/channel into 6 ohms.

    Onkyo's Euro website has a more detailed description of the features on the receiver.

    And it has a phono input ! I wonder if you cld use the zone 2 output as a "record out" feature found on most Yamaha receivers..

    This receiver rocks!

    I have a small livingroom and a pair of Polk Monitor 70 speakers. Now my music sounds amazing and movies and TV sound spectacular. Vinyl sounds great too!

    No need for video processing because my Sharp Aquos looks awesome already. 2 optical inputs was exactly what I was looking for but could only find on other multichannel A/V receivers. There's also 2 coax dig inputs too.

    Ipod input is simple with no need to buy an expensive dock. Just use your USB interface cable and you can even control the iPod with the Onkyo remote. There is also a music enhancing setting that you can select when playing MP3s to make up for the compression.

    The only complaint I have is that the network playing features only seem to be compatable with Windows Media Player. I'm a Mac guy and would have like to see it work with iTunes.

    I was considering HK and Denon but they didn't have the 2 optical inputs and the simple iPod connectivity so I went with the TX-8050. I am very happy with my decision!
