Well I finally have an sacd player and now I probably should start buying some sacd's , dvda's and analog ic's

Does any of you guys have a particular sacd you would recommend that really shows of the format ?

Where is a good place you buy sacds or dvd audio ?

I am more of a techno music guy but I know there's probably none of these so I am clueless . I would like some hard rock titles and some female vocalists for the wifey

    congrats on your player...

i'm more into DVD-audio than SACD.. but there are many more titles on SACD than DVD-A. with that said... i just rediscovered B.B. King and Eric Clapton's - Riding With the King on DVD-A. crank it and just kick back and let those two legends do what they do best.. and it's all on this disc.

2 other DVD-A disc every listener should have in their collection of hi rez music are... 80's groups...

The Fixx - 1011 Woodland - it's extended live studio versions of all their songs from the 80's.

Inside the Music - New Wave - 80's music.. people like Blondie, Billy Idol, The Tubes, Wall of VooDoo, Missing Person's, The Knack, THe Motels.. etc.

People really like the Eagles - Hotel California. I just sold mine on epay for over $100

check this list out of SACD's http://www.musicdirect.com/category/2

I've heard the Crystal Method one is awesome. I've only got a few DVD-A's (My previous Acura had a DVD-A player stock in it)

The best one that I own hands down is Linkin Park's Reanimation. It has the best "true" 5.1 sound that surrounds you. I've listened to some NIN, and Disturbed in this format and I found it to be rather blah.

Two great suggestions. If you can't hear what SACD has to offer with either of these? You don't need SACD's.

The I-link is actualy the preferred way for sacd. It's a one wire solution to set it up and control, but you can just use analog cables. Hooking it up by optical cable will not get you the benefits of sacd.

    Two things:
1)Before investing in a SACD of something you already own, check out: http://www.dr.loudness-war.info/ The higher resolution of SACD isn't worth it, if some jackass turned up the dynamic compression when remastering.

2)If there's a DVD-A and a SACD version of the same recording, you probably want the DVD-A; PCM is far easier for studios to work with, so the SACD will just be a conversion of the PCM version. You're better off closer to the source.

The 45 sounds quite good on regular cd's but nothing special compared to my marantz 4001. The 45 has faster bass making it less boomy

I have been looking at that sacd.net site and love the way it can take you straight to amazon where you can buy it and listen to samples . It sure does make shopping easy by saving alot of time

Thats some good news about that denon link as it will save a fortune on ic's that I was pricing out

There are so many multi ch sacds and I only have 2 polks rti8 and 3 martin logan so I may have to go buy another 2 martin logans if I want to experience the multi ch side of sacd although I mainly just want to enjoy some 2ch on the tube integrated

Does any one here think the mutli ch sounds better than the 2 ch?

Can the multi ch sacd's still be played in 2 ch or does it sound weird ?

Most if not all multi-channel SACD's also have a 2 channel layer. For me, the whole attraction of SACD & DVD-A is the multi-channel aspect. Unless the redbook CD sounds really bad, I don't see much point in buying 2 channel SACDs. Sure they usually sound better than redbook, but not enough to justify the price in many cases.

The SACD 'spec' is said to require a 2-channel mix in the DSD layer if it also has a multi-channel mix.

A Hybrid SACD will have another layer for CD/redbook playback - but not all SACDs are hybrid and so, can ONLY be played back on a SACD player to decode the DSD layer.

Having said that, there are some SACDs that only have a multi-channel mix:
    http://www.sa-cd.net/showthread/276/276/y

I have about..oh....40-50 SACDs now - mostly jazz, some rock. Some are 2-channel only, some are multi-channel and I find that I'm mostly a boring plain old 2-channel type of guy.

It's the other way around....2 channel DSD mix is required on a SACD. The CD layer (which makes the disc a hybrid SACD) and the multi-channel DSD mix are entirely optional. As mentioned before, there're some SACD that only contain a multi-channel DSD mix (and perhaps a CD layer), but I'd imagine less than 1% of all SACDs are like that.

Like to point out that the 2 channel DSD mix and the multi-channel DSD mix (if available) are on one layer of a SACD. The 2 DSD mixes are physically located in different areas of the disc. In other words, if you have a multi-channel SACD and you select to listen to it in 2 channel stereo, you are not hearing just the FL/FR of a multi-channel mix.

    sacd_discs.jpg

Edit: Also want to mentioned that the CD layer of a hybrid SACD can also be encoded in HDCD. If the CD layer is one of those "Enhanced CDs", there may be video that can be viewed on a computer.

i like multi-channel music... in well.. multi-channel... 5.1 sounds so much more lively to me than 2 ch hi rez audio.. not that the 2ch is horrible.. anything but. when you hear a well mixed multi-channel disc.. it rocks your world.
