Sources for hard to find music?

Often times, great recordings will appear on youtube, particularity live versions or acoustic versions. Sometimes these are fan recordings and unlikely to exist in a decent form. however, other times they appear to be private studio sessions or live recorded events.
there are some great live/acoustic performances that I've been trying to find that only seem to appear on youtube. thing is, those uploaders had to get the video somehow... I am assuming someone professionally recorded it... is there some source for this type of material?
